“Worth it if you have a discount...”

I used Expedia to find the cheapest room I could. We were visiting Ames for VEISHEA and we wanted to save funds. This one was by far the cheapest, and we could see why. The breakfast area was clean, but small. The desk clerks were nice enough, but they were a little strange. We found ourselves wishing we had brought pillows, as these were very rigid and not very comfortable. All the amenities worked well and seemed to be kept up. We did get a pushy call from the desk around our check-out time, making us feel rushed. All in all, not a horrible stay. The hotel is located in a developing area of Ames, making the traffic less congested, but only about a mile away from many restaurants and shopping areas.

“Poor Experience”

Check in was quick and convenient, as was the check out process. The hotel was quiet, and some of the areas seemed clean, the common areas. However, the room was ridiculous. There was a used band aid on the floor when we arrived, and the room was not the one that we had booked (2 double beds instead of one queen). However, since we were there on Homecoming weekend, there wasn't a way for them to accomodate our "request" to switch to the correct room. The shower had long, dark hairs all over it upon arrival as well. When we turned on the heat, it started smoking so badly that the smoke alarm went off, and they could not fix it, nor did they offer any other way of remediating the situation, and said they had no extra blankets to give us. So, the hotel room was about 60 degrees all night. While this hotel isn't necessarily close to anything (we were there for a football game and other campus activities), it is quick and easy to get around in Ames, so this wasn't a big issue for us. Overall, we would not go back, not only was it dirty and in poor repair, the clerks were not helpful at all, nor did they offer to fix things that were broken. Sometimes inexpensive just means cheap.

“Not impressed”

After booking a non-smoking room I was put in a smoking room. I was told that was all they had available. When I tried to shower at 8:45 a.m. there was NO hot water left. Not even luke warm. I ended up washing my hair in cold water at the sink. Awful!

“SORRY, BUT EVERY HOTEL IN SIGHT OF THIS ONE IS A BETTER BET!”

Could not get an extra pillow. The room smelled bad. If I turned off the AC so I could listen to music, write, think or watch some tv, the smell would overpower me. The shower head was at the height of my chest. I am not tall. Leaning over to get my hair wet was just ridiculous. So poorly planned! Breakfast! A Joke. Not close to downtown. Best Western and Holiday Inn much better located and look a far sight better than this dump.

“Not impressed”

The room did not appear to be very clean. For example, there was a used washed cloth hanging over the shower rod when we first checked in; before we noticed the washcloth, we had already had the sense that the room wasn't very clean - don't know why, just did.
