Quiet hotel close to museums and shops

Posted May 29, 2014
Pros: Quiet location, but still within easy reach of the city centre and visitor locations. The bed had a mattress topper.
Location: In the museum quarter, so close to Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum etc; short tram ride or 15 min walk to old town & canals.
It was a quiet hotel in a good position with good travel links, very close to the key museums. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room had a kettle and mini-fridge. The bed was very comfortable - and that is praise indeed!

One step above a hostel.

Looks nice but that is deceiving. Room was maybe 120 sf including bathroom. Mattress was terrible and bowed in the middle. For the cost should be upgraded. Shower head is 6'1" height, I'm 6' tall. Front desk manned at night by restaurant bartender. Front door is locked at night (after 20:00), so you have to wait to enter hotel after you ring front bell until drinks are served at the bar. I stayed at 4 hotels during my swing in Europe. For the price point this was by far the worse.

Great Hotel Quiet area but close to Tram stop

Posted Apr 30, 2014
Pros: The hotel was very clean and very quiet and the staff were very helpful and willing to help.
Cons: We did not have breakfast in the hotel as we found the cost a little excessive
Location: The hotel is in an excellent location with Museums very close by. It is located on a side street with a very short walk to a tram stop so ideal.
We had a lovely short break in Amsterdam the hotel was excellent and the staff were very friendly.

good location, over-priced, small rooms.

Pros: The location. The bar...and the bartender is a nice guy, much warmer than the rest of the staff...even if you are just having a cup of tea.
Cons: Get rid of the arrogant attitudes...travellers thrive on a few kind words. They could also have better liquor and snacks in the bar. Its vanilla.
Location: Lots to do nearby...many museums and some of the most expensive shopping in A'dam.
The staff were courteous, and professional: and just too cold. I've had some pretty warm welcomes in Amsterdam, but this group needs a few pointers on how to be courteous and professional, but not so STUFFY. The bartender was an exception: friendly after a bit of chat, very knowledgable about Amsterdam. And speaking of the bar...there isn't really a chef, so all that's available are some reheated snacks...overpriced too. They could do with a few more high end selections in the bar: ho-hum Scotches, and only one beer (Heineken, which is kind of silly in a hotel with pretentious of being something a "cut above" the rest). Seriously, what would it take to have a nice bottle of Calvados, a few higher end Scotches and Bourbons and some kind of nice bubbly available for the more discriminating buyer? It's a pleasant place to sit, but I can't recommend it unless you want to pay a fortune for pretty plain vanilla fare and microwaved egg rolls.

Very nice hotel for Van Gogh Museum

Posted Apr 7, 2014
Pros: The staff and location
Cons: You need to notify guests the cost of the breakfast at check-in or in hotel information in the room
Location: The location was perfect for visiting the Van Gogh and Rijks Museums, just a couple of blocks away
All of the staff at the reception front desk and breakfast room were excellent, very helpful and friendly. The rooms were small, but not unusual for a hotel in a large city such as Amsterdam. The room, especially the small bathroom, was updated, clean, and in good condition. The location was perfect for visiting the Van Gogh and Rijks Museums, just a couple of blocks away, and for access to main tram lines through the city for transport.
