This was a very charming hotel facing a beautiful canal. We are a family of 4 so we ended up in the attic room which offered 2 beds. This is a narrow building but is several stories tall, which made for some very steep staircases to haul luggage (no elevator), but the staff is very good about offering to bring your bags up for you to help make this a non-issue. Front desk is manned 24/7 if needed and we found all staff we encountered to be very helpful and accommodating. The hotel is well located and a very walkable distancew from Central Station. We very much enjoyed out stay.

Beautiful property in a quieter area but within walking distance to many attractions and central station. The staff were very friendly and helpful. As reviews have mentioned, the stairs are a bit steep and there is no lift, but that’s to be expected in this type of building. I would stay here again.

We came to Amsterdam for the Fespa 2024 trade show in March. The hotel was in walking distance to the central train station, which was important to get to the show. It is also in walking distance to all other sights, restaurants and shops. The rooms are pretty small and there is no elevator to get up to your rooms. The stairs are very steep, which is typical for old Dutch buildings. Pack light, is my advice. The room was clean, modern and the beds comfortable. The bathroom was tiny and we managed. Although there are places to have breakfast outside of the hotel, we chose to eat at the hotel. The coffee is delicious and the typical European breakfast is a great start to your day. The staff were lovely and helpful. We would stay here again.

Such a quaint place. Location was amazing, we had absolutely everything we needed, and the staff were so attentive and accommodating. We especially loved the lobby area where we could come back at the end of the evening an enjoy a nice drink and visit.

It's Amsterdam. I was there to experience the city, and the hotels in the surrounding areas were probably similar. The hotel was part of the experience of staying along the canals. It was charming

Amazing gem of a hotel in a quite part of the canals. Very walkable to all the parts of the city and a great area in its own right. The hotel is cosy and gezellich and the rooms are quirky but comfortable. I would definitely recommend it.

Funky boutique hotel in a very good location but we were disappointed that it is a bit threadbare and dusty. Few amenities in the room. The stairs are very steep and cannot be avoided, so people with movement range issues should beware.

Wonderful Hotel
A nice Hotel with average size room, but with very comfortable beds.Staff where helpful, polite and very professional. I will use this hotel again as it's very close to Central Station.

Around the property there was work going around on street level so lots of metal put down to walk on , entrance to the hotel was a little unsafe as some of the brickwork on entering the property had come away. The hotel had a nice ambience and cleaning was done on request, not as par for the course. Fair enough. The reception area was very nice , again , had a nice vibe to it and felt quite cosy. Breakfast was a buffet style, croissants, bread, salad , fruit cheeses, coffee machine , pretty much standard. Again the area was clean and presented very nicely. Our room was on the first floor down some steps and then up quite a steep stair, which is typical for Amsterdam, but not very good for anyone with mobility issues, especially with luggage. The room we stayed in was a standard room, which was presented very nicely, had a nice cosy feel, but also it was quite small! There was little storage space, very little hanging space and very little surface areas to put stuff on. So not ideal but did detract a little bit. The shower was , again, very good, warm and good for purpose.The actual toilet was very much crammed in and , if you are tall, IE 6ft 3", you`re banging your knee on the sink or sitting at a weird angle.

An interesting Amsterdam stay
The hotel is well situated from central station, as well as the heart of Amsterdam. On foot, you can get to most of the main sites within 15-25 minutes with ease. The hotel itself it on the old side, but in good condition. I upgraded to a canal facing room, which was really beautiful. The issue, was the noise. The walls might actually be made of paper, as literally every conversation outside of the hotel at all hours of the night, were heard as if they were sitting in the room with you, and sadly it's not an exaggeration. Also, there was a smoke smell for nearly a day, and while the staff were incredibly diligent with trying to find the origin of it, there was not really anything offered, or apologetic about it. Even with that, the staff honestly were super friendly, helpful, and present, which is more than you can say for a lot of places. With that being said, I'd definitely return, and perhaps get a different room that may be better for noise.

The room had a beautiful view of the canal. The room was worth it for the view alone. However, the bathroom’s fan was not working so the room was very damp and our towels wouldn’t dry unless we turned the heat on high making the room hot.

Great central hotel
Stayed for four nights. Room was small but clean. Hotel very central and walking distance from city center and train station. Staff were very nice and pleasant. Although there was construction works right outside the hotel door this was not the Hotel staffs fault in anyway. Overall great hotel and would stay again.

We loved staying at the Max Brown. We felt like we lived in the neighborhood. We had a beautiful view of two canals from our room. There are a lot of steep stairs but we LOVED this Hotel. The staff was fantastic and very helpful.

The hotel is a cute, quaint little boutique hotel in a fantastic location. Staff were fantastic and welcoming. Our room had no air conditioning which wasn’t an issue. There were some construction along the canal out the front which again wasn’t and issue. Highly recommend a stay if in Amsterdam.

Would not recommend this place for older people as the rooms are up narrow and steep stairs. The room I was given had a toilet outside the room and put me on the top floor so carrying my luggage up 3 flights of narrow steep stairs. Location was handy

Great location if traveling by train in and out of Amsterdam. Quiet, but small. It has nice restaurants with in a few minutes walking. Down side (temporary) is major construction on canal right in front of hotel. However noise was not noticeable. Would come back. Cozy hotel.

Hotel staff were friendly and the lobby and communal areas very well presented. Customer service very good and accommodating. Hotel in great location and relatively easy to find. The room we were given however was extremely limited being not much wider than a small double bed and two side tables, no window (we had an overhead skylight - which was actually overlooked by another room…) extremely warm without a proper window. Bed was clean and comfortable, and the shower room modern and pleasant. Overall not too bad and worth while for central location, however the room pictures they advertise do feel quite misleading.

Very Romantic
Bjorn and Nela were excellent with guest services. Bjorn offered and carried up my large suitcase. We were also given 2 complimentary beverages for our honeymoon suite. It is a tight space but we loved the quaintness and charm of room 402 (canal view) that we were given for our honeymoon. The welcome chocolate and swans on our bed with petals scattered and balloons. Very sweet. We love Amsterdam. My first visit. My husbands second visit. He loved running along the canals in the morning. The breakfast was sufficient. We requested to bring fresh coffee to our rooms before breakfast (pre-run bevy) and Nela was so nice to let us do so. The central location was ideal. Only a short east 15 min. We all with luggage was perfect. No need for a taxi. The only challenge for returning would be my age. My husband is 59 and in great shape. I’m is also in excellent shape from all the hiking we do. Not sure if I could do this in 10 years. The stairs up your room were quite steep. As many Amsterdam domiciles are. If you have mobility issues, you may want to request a room on a lower level. I think there are some. Overall… loved the artistic and quirky ambience of this hotel.
