“Amsterdam I would not go anymore”

Typical european hotel room. Tiny and good for the price for 1 person. As soon as you are in the room with your partner, you fall over each other. Rather pay a bit more and get a typical american hotel.

“Great location, room a little outdated. Beds were a bit lumpy”

I had the twin room and the beds were not comfortable. I was on my own so it was ok. The hotel is clean, safe and decent but not 4 star. 2.5 to 3 star. Location however is great. TIP the shuttle van to airport booked via hotel frontdesk was well worth 15.50 Euros. So convenient.

Area recommendations
Red light district is nearby. Shopping and eating also nearby. Grocery store next door to hotel. Hotel restaurant is expensive. I ate elsewhere. Free WIFI

“A good location for a first visit to Amsterdam”

This hotel had a nice sized room and was centrally located for access to the Central train station, the trams, and just walking to the downtown and west side attractions. A good value for the price and certainly more roomy than the rooms that I had for the same price in London and Paris.

“Great location!”

We stayed at the Die Port van Cleve Hotel for four nights and were pleased in overall. The best location! Very central, close to the Central Station. The breakfast was very good and had a nice selection of early morning food. However, the small size of the room and total lack of the storage space (the closet was tiny with four hangers available) didn't make us fully satisfied with the hotel. Our friends had a regular size closet and fit all their clothes but for us it was a big disadvantage of the room. Other than that, the staff was friendly and helpful. We would go back to this hotel IF we will be given a bigger size room and closet.

Area recommendations
There is a charming local restaurant nearby on the same side of the street two blocks from the hotel. Just go right when you leave the hotel and follow the same street. It should be on your right hand side along the tram rails. The food is delicious and the place is very traditional.

“Great stay”

The location was excellent, near the square but not too close to the hoopla. Walking distance to everything but had a great restaurant right out front. The room was clean and spacious compared to our Paris hotel for the same money. The staff was friendly and helpful. We also found taxi drivers to be the most helpful and knowledgeable.

“Die Port Van Cleve”

We went to have fun and party so consider that when reading my review. The staff at the hotel were very friendly. They will offer you details about the city if you hadn't researched Amsterdam yourself. If they don't check you in right away, trust that they are full. I'm not going to lie about this either, if you sit in the lobby with regular clothes on, it may speed up the process of getting checked in. Otherwise taking a walk around the friendly city will be one of the coolest experiences of your life. The city makes the hotels here not the other way around. I could have slept in a hostile and been just as happy considering the people we ran into. But there is no denying the facts, Die Port Van Cleve is a notch above most hotels I saw because of location. You will be right behind Dam Square. If you are a social bug this is the place for you. When you look at cost of rooms and location your value chart should go way up! The value of this hotel is great. (I still stand by my hostile comment; people in this city are very friendly and all the dutch speak perfect english. You'll have no problem feeling safe and secure.) Don't go wondering around between 4am and 7 am, nothing will be open and streets will have random englishmen walking around begging for 2 euro chips. BRing your chapstick if you go when it is cold. I LOVE AMSTERDAM!!! Upgrade to a smoking room if you want to enjoy the gourmet! ;) Happy TRavels!

Getting around
Amsterdam is the coolest city for walking! You will have no problem getting around and EVERYONE speaks english!!!!! Bill O reilly is a tool!!!!
