Convenient, but not 4 star.

Posted Oct 13, 2014
Pros: The location is good and the staff were friendly.
The hotel is an easy walk to train station, very close to Dam Square, and transportation right out front. However the room we had was small with slanted ceilings and low beams, which my husband had to be very careful of not hitting his head. The phone and the lamp on the desk did not work. The only light was two small reading lights over the bed and in the bathroom.

Great location for town centre

Posted Sep 10, 2014
Historic and atmospheric city centre hotel; slightly off the main drag but ideal for city centre attractions and for walking the canal system. One drawback - they could be quicker in cleaning rooms: not good to have to wait till 3 pm to check into room or to have to waut till 2 pm to have roon cleaned.

Convenient for all attractions

Pros: The staff. The closeness to centre of Amsterdam.
Cons: Lighting in rooms
Location: Near Anne Franks house. Hop on hop off bus stopped outside hotel. Walking distance to most places.
Staff were very friendly and helpful especially Laura on reception and Martin in the bar. Only criticism would be the lack of lighting in lobby area of room where the suitcase was unpacked. It was very dark.

Great location

Perfect location within walking distance to all hilights (10 min or less). Clean, very friendly staff. Rooms are small, but get the job done. You're not there to spend the day in your room anyway. Near supermarket for essentials. 2 mins to Dam Square. Would stay there again. Did not eat in restaurant so can not report.

Amsterdam City break

Traditional style hotel just behind the Royal palace in Dam Square. Gothic style building. Central location. Very comfortable room, though our room on fifth floor had very small windows which did not let much light in. Did not use hotel restaurant as eating out in Amsterdam very expensive. Staff helpful and friendly. Would most definitely stay there again.

So Utterly Disappointing

Posted Aug 29, 2014
This hotel touts itself as 4star but it is not yet they charge 4star prices. I feel conned. The rooms are tiny, dreary, noisy, old and smell like stale smoke despite them making you sign your life away promising you won't smoke in the room when you check in. The noise comes from all angles, old squeaky floor boards above you, beneath you and around you. Doors have gaps under them letting light and noise in. Walls are paper thin so no chance of sleeping in. Housekeeping ignore the do not disturb signs so expect them to wake you up every morning whether you put the sign on or not. They also go in whilst you're out of the room even if the sign is up. They never gave us a bar of soap when they did this either. Stuck washing our hands with shampoo. Phone was broken, notified reception twice and nothing was done. The only somewhat decent thing was the bathroom which was pokey but at least modernised to what you'd expect of a 4 star establishment. Honestly we wished we never stayed here. It put such a downer on the trip to not have a relaxing place to return to after a busy day. The lifts are super slow so you'll take the stairs like everyone else...dont get a room near these stairs because people make a LOT of noise going up and down them. Just dont stay here. Its poor value for money, there has to be much better in Amsterdam for the price. Its easy to get around the city so the location isnt all its cracked up to be.

Excellent hotel in the heart of Amsterdam

Posted Aug 13, 2014
Pros: The hotel facilities and the staff were excellent. The reception staff have to deal with some very rude people and they do a great job.
Cons: Our only criticism was the automatic light in the open plan wardrobe, which came on every time you passed nearby.
Location: You have trams and buses stopping right outside, which take you all over the city. Plenty of activities within walking distance.
We stayed four nights and were made very welcome on arrival. Our room was very comfortable. The breakfast choice was wide and the food fresh and tasty. We highly recommend this hotel.
