Not for the faint of heartPosted Sep 20, 2013
Pros: Cute, very clean, cooking facilities.
Cons: Attitude of the owner.
Location: Pleasant neighborhood, lots of ethnic restaurants, diversity. Near Van Gogh Museum and Rijkmuseum.
We arrived in Amsterdam at 10:30 am and called the hotel to make arrangements to leave our baggage until check-in time. We were informed that check-in was at 3 pm, and we could not leave our baggage until that time. We had to lug the baggage around for 5 hours because there was no place to store it, essentially wasting the first day of our 3 day trip. We arrived at the hotel at 10 minutes before 3 p.m. The owner answered the door and informed us that check-in was not until 3 p.m. and refused to admit us. We had to wait out on the street until exactly 3 p.m. He then chastised us because our baggage was too large. (We had two suitcases, slightly larger than carry-on size.) He also demanded a $200 damage deposit not mentioned in the hotel description. The room is on the 4th floor with very steep, winding stairs. It's cute, but there's no place to hang up your clothes or unpack them, except for a "clothes tree". On the plus side, there are cooking facilities, and the owner leaves ample food so that you can cook your own breakfast. This set-up is suitable for young, adventurous people traveling very light. Not recommended for mature adults.

Great Location Perfect loft!Posted Sep 12, 2013 on Hotels.com
My husband and i stayed in the loft for three nights and enjoyed every minute of it! The loft is in a very beautiful quiet area of Amsterdam! The loft itself is perfect! It is well equipped with everything hat you need for a very comfortable stay! The owner Weinik is very friendly and very helpful and made us feel more that welcome! When we arrived we found a stocked fridge with breakfast goodies and even beer! Along with fresh bread it was perfect!

Very cleanPosted Sep 5, 2013 on Hotels.com
Very clean and excellent location, close to museum quarter and trams. Damage deposit a little surprise and 58 steep steps also... Although advertisement advised of steps. Manager/owner very friendly and helpful. Could use some shelves for clothing. And breakfast is a 'do it yourself' but fine. Happy to have found Fran's Hals Loft on line as most everything else was booked... Even in December and very expensive due to the weekend?

Loved itPosted Aug 6, 2013
Pros: Location, amenities, staff
Cons: Can't really improve it, but do NOT make a reservation for this place if you have a lot of luggage.
Location: Heineken experience, Rijksmuseum
This loft is located on the 4th floor (or 3rd depending on who you ask) of a charming building. The only bad thing is that there is no elevator and the stairs are very narrow and tall (which is common for the Netherlands). Otherwise, we loved the price and having our own mini kitchen. We would definitely stay here again.

Cons: The stairs.
Location: Trams near, and lots of interesting sightseeing, such as museums and market.
We were very pleased with the accommodation,. Very, very clean, and had some nice food in the fridge for our breakfasts. The owner was also very helpful, and made us feel very welcomed. Only thing was the stairs, but we already knew about that. Location very handy for a ,lots of sightseeing.. Find a very nice restaurant just around the corner from where we were staying. it was called Brassarie Sent. Five out five for the hotel.

A fantastic experiencePosted Apr 28, 2013 on Hotels.com
Staying at Frans Hals Loft was the best decision for me and my husband's 5-day getaway. We arrived around 1pm - two hours before official check-in - but the owner of the loft was nice enough to let us check in anyways. Embarrassingly enough, I had forgotten to bring the cash as requested, but again, the owner was super nice and patient and directed us to the closest ATM (about a 5 minute walk away). The warning about the steep stairs is not exaggeration: those were some of the narrowest and steepest stairs I have ever seen - and I live in a Victorian walkup in London. Once upstairs, though, you get a cozy, functional, and modern flat that is perfect for two. It's bright and well equipped, with a small kitchenette that served us well for cooking basic food and store breakfast and lunch items. The fridge does come stocked with eggs, cheese, ham and butter along with milk and oj. There was even a fresh baguette waiting, which rivaled those I've had in Paris. Noise from neighboring flats and the street were minimal, and the location can't be beat. i'ts a 20 minute busride to the airport and you are in the heart of Amsterdam within an easy 10 minutes on foot. Our return flight was not until late in the evening, but the owner let us store our luggage in his flat downstairs for the day, which was much appreciated. Overall, I can't say enough nice things about the flat and the owner - for the price, you won't find anything better in Amsterdam and we will come back for sure!

Looking down from 4 floors up on AmsterdamPosted Apr 6, 2013
Wienik, the owner, was very welcoming and accommodating to our needs. The loft is, as described, up 4 flights of very steep stairs, but it was good exercise and the view was good! Despite what it says on some emails from Expedia to the contrary, he expects to be paid in cash, so we had to bring quite a lot of euros with us for the first night. However, the deposit was returned when we left. Expedia also did not give us an email address, but we found one eventually (by looking up "RoyalDutchBlue" on Google - it's apartment B) and this turned out to be the easiest way of making contact with him to arrange arrival times etc. There were eggs, bread, cheese, cold meat, fruit juice, butter,,jam etc. in the fridge (for breakfasts) and he also kindly left us some beer and kiwi fruits, all of which we appreciated. The kitchenette had everything we needed. The two electric rings were particularly useful. The beds and general decor were comfortable and spotlessly clean, although we could have done with some extra blankets on some nights when the heating seemed to be off and it was particularly chilly (April, but close to zero degrees C!) As for location, it's close to Amsterdam's vibrant street market and surrounded by lots of ethnic restaurants. It's also only 10 minutes walk to the Museumplein and the Concertgebouw, and it 's easily reached by the number 16 or 24 tram from the main railway station. We had a lovely stay there and would recommend it.
