No porter to help with luggagePosted Aug 27, 2014
Pros: Bedding was fabulous and the availability to use the gym and spa
Cons: porter to assist with luggage since there are several steps to enter the lobby
Hotel was nice with courteous staff. The free wi-fi and free mini-bar was a nice perk. Good location

Great hotel, great locationPosted Aug 27, 2014
Lovely hotel in a great central location. The staff are all friendly and attentive. The swimming pool is peaceful - we had it to ourselves one evening. If you want to treat yourselves, this is the place to do it!

Don't stay here if you want to be treated wellPosted Aug 26, 2014
Pros: It was interesting on the outside, but nothing on the inside based on our experiences.
Cons: Air-conditioning, staff service.
Location: Near sights of Amsterdam.
In what was supposed to be a nice conclusion to our trip, we booked our last nights in Amsterdam at a "5 star" hotel. What a terrible decision! When we checked in, we were warmly greeted and since the room wasn't ready, the front desk held our luggage. But when we returned we were put in a room on the first floor facing the main road. That wasn't a problem until we found our air conditioning didn't work! Nor did the fan on the system. We tried to open the windows but only a small 1 ft wide window could open. So we called the front desk who came and told us that we just didn't know how to turn it on. After playing with the controls for a few minutes, the night manager said we were right and that it didn't work! He then said he would get it fixed the next day and brought us a small 8" fan for our room. That did NOTHING to help the temp. At no time did he offer to put us in a different room. After sweating through the night, we returned the next day to find that the air still did not come on. After calling the front desk again, a different night manager arrived to tell us there was nothing he could do and that we should have notified them during the day. After telling him that we had spoken with the previous night manager, he said that he would see if he could upgrade us to a different room but on his return, the hotel was (of course) full and we couldn't switch rooms. They offered free breakfast the next morning to make up for it. It didn't. Don't stay here! Not a 5 star stay!

Great service and price for a 5-star hotel. Concierge was a bit snobby, but then again they all are.

Old historical buildingPosted Aug 23, 2014
The day we arrived; the safety deposit box, the A/C & the sink were all faulty. The staff immediately took action in upgrading our room, with no hesitation or hustle. Most of the staff extremely disciplined and well mannered. The manager "Jasper", F&B manager "Patrick", front desk Ms Simone, the bar manager "Jasper" as well as the others. Thank you all.

Didn't get too.Posted Aug 22, 2014
My booking reference was misjudged on-line, due to a technical error. Hotel would not alter my booking to accommodate me. But were still glad to take the room fee.

Convenient and strikingPosted Aug 22, 2014
Pros: Architecture, comfort and location
Location: Wander the canals and catch a tram to get a good look at Amsterdam.
Stayed three nights in June 2014. Modern, comfortable room with a lovely view over the canal. History and architecture of the hotel is a feature. We had a high standard meal in the restaurant. Easy walking distance from railway station, tram depot and Dam Square.

Close to train station and old city.Posted Aug 20, 2014
Pros: Unique character.
Cons: Windows won't open... clearer signage to move about from room to lobby / exits
Location: Lots of sight seeing, we landed at Old Sailor bar and made friends from Holland, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland... try a Dropshot shooter!
Twin beds is more like 2 side by side singles,,,,but they say so in the small print. But you can seperate them for some separation when sharing room with a friend without benefits! You'll find your way around the halls and floors on day 2... this is not your usual hotel layout...which makes it the more interesting. Well maintained historical building...mentionned in canal sight seeing boat tour. The weekend was booked solid with frat parties, all hotels full, Amrath was upper scale than sought but well worth it, sharing a room with ample space.

Great location - a unique hotelPosted Aug 19, 2014
Beautiful historic building - a pleasure to stay somewhere that wasn't exactly like all the rest. An easy walk from Central Station. Huge room, huge windows, huge bed (really comfy) Loved the free mini bar and nespresso machine - nice touches. Great power shower and option of bath too. Clean and well presented. Bit difficult to find room at first but found a short cut eventually! Pool small but OK for a dip, pleasant spa staff - perhaps would have been nice to have treatments on offer? Great location - walked to all main attractions (and had canal trip) Great bars and restaurants - friendly, helpful and polite people. Only wished we had had more time - will have to come back!
