Great Hotel close to centre

Posted Apr 11, 2015
Pros: Staff were very helpful and friendly.
Cons: The hotel bar area etc was quite austere and a little unwelcoming.
Location: Relatively close to the centre. Most attractions such as museum and Van Gogh museum within 30 minute walk.
First impression was excellent, we arrived at about 10 pm to a very pleasant greeting and were quickly checked in. Room was first class.

Great service

Posted Apr 11, 2015
Pros: Nice staff, huge beds and rooms. Spa super. Fabulous building. Teenager daughter loved it.
Cons: Being able to control all room lights from bed.
Location: Excellent location. Close to station. No noise even though just across the canal from China town and red light district.
On arrival our room was not ready. Moved to a better room with nicer view and breakfast for three given as complimentary. Great architecture too.

Great imposing hotel in a great location. Near the station / tram / stops and canals that made for a great base for exploring Amsterdam. Very friendly efficient staff. We were all stupidiy excited by the electronic curtains! Thoroughly recommend - ask for canal view!

ONE OF AMSTERDAM'S VERY BEST

Posted Mar 30, 2015
Pros: You could spend the day wandering round looking at the countless amazing architectural details. A world-class Modernist building. Beautiful place.
Location: great location near the station. Very useful if you come in from the airport - you are right at the hotel. just a five minute walk.
A terrific hotel in general and a fine staff. For the quality of the hotel, remarkably cheap - we paid around $220 for a superb room right downtown. Try getting that in a US big city.

Classy hotel by Central Station.

Posted Mar 29, 2015
Pros: Old world charm, the pool and sauna, customer service and housekeeping, the building itself, proximity to Central Station, trams and restaurants.
Cons: The Amrath likes to position itself as a 5 star hotel. It is not. It's not the Ritz, not the 4 Seasons. It is, however, a fine 4 star hotel.
Location: Good restaurants are nearby. All trams are just blocks away at Central Station. And we were walking distance to many important attractions.
The Amrath is in a 100 + year old building with a storied history. It's been, for the most part, beautifully renovated as a hotel and provided for a very pleasant stay in the Central Station/Red Light District area. If you enjoy this type of environment instead of, say, an ultra-modern hipster hotel - then you'll appreciate your stay here. The bar is beautiful as is the restaurant - although I never saw anyone in the restaurant - and it was priced just above our budget. The spa area - including a really gorgeous hotel - was very good and was perfect for our us and our 11 year old kid. The room, itself, had a modern bathroom, an excellent bed, the highest ceiling I've ever seen in a hotel, and some slightly worn furniture. The service, throughout, was excellent, with extra towels and bathrobes at our call.
