“Great for the price”

This is a cozy hotel that is next to the shopping district/train station in the heart of the Amsterdam. Even though the room are small, but for the price, it is clean, great location with easy access, and hot breakfast is included, which is even better.

“First trip to Amsterdam”

Hotel couldn't have been more conveniently and centrally located. 10 minute walk from Centraal Station, canal area very walkable, Anne Frank House, Heineken Brewery, museums, bars, restaurants..if you can't find it by walking, it isn't here and you don't belong here.

“Convenience Location!”

The hotel was clean enough, big enough and comfortable enough as a 3-star hotel. The location was great. Everything was nearby, so you even didn't need to take any trams. Only Museum area was a big far away. The free Wifi sometimes dropped off but it worked enough. The free breakfast was nothing special, but it was also good enough.

Area recommendations
Amsterdam is quite small with good public transportations. So, it doesn't have to be close to the Central Station. There is a direct bus to the airport from Leidseplein.
Getting there
There is a direct bus between the Airport and Leidseplein. The bus number is 197. It runs every 15 minutes, takes about 20 minutes and costs 4 euros. If you stay around Museum area, you'd better to take this bus instead of a train to the Central Station. It costs more than 6 euros.

“Extreme disappointment!”

Extremely small dirty room with bed bugs , no housekeeping , dirty towels , stains all over the moquette , smelly toilet , no safe box , no minibar , worst experience ever in Amsterdam!

“Walk from train station is easy...”

We arrived at 9a.m. and were hoping to put our luggage in a closet and come back later to cheack in. The hotel did not have our reservation but we had a copy of our reservation that had been paid in full. They said not to worry that they would straighten it our with the supplier and allowed us to check into a room (a quad at that). We were very lucky that they had a room for us. The room was clean and adequate as was the breakfast. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We walked to the hotel from the train station and we had a lot of luggage but it was not a problem. I did feel the rate was a little high for the property, but I guess it was Location, Location, Location! I would not have a problem staying there again or recommending it to anyone else.

Area recommendations
We were only in Amsterdam for 24 hours, so we took a canal cruise and really enjoyed it. We later walked around the Dam Square area and passed by the Ann Frank House and had dinner in that area. We sat outside by the canal and it was very nice. My 16 and 18 year old grandaughters wanted to see the "red light district", so we did go see the "ladies in the window". I wouldn't do that again because the neighborhood was filled with sex shops and really not a place for teenagers. We did love Amsterdam and my grandaughters can't wait to go back again!
What to pack
Although we were in Amsterdam on June 8, it was cold. We went on to Paris then to Bavaria and returned home on June 23. It finally warmed up on June 21. Bring closed in shoes, and layer, layer, layer. Be sure to bring a small umbrella you can carry at all times. The weather changed every few hours.

“Nice hotel, not the best staff”

The hotel itself is nice, however the blonde girl who was checking me in was quite a bit snotty. I can't be sure, but it seemed to have something to do with me being an American. At first I thought I was just tired and maybe I was mis-reading things, but later when I asked another employee if he could recommend any of the restaurants nearby she butted in with "Burger King?" So yeah, I think it probably had to do with me being an American. Other than that, the single-room I had was adequate for me being by myself, and the hotel is a quick 5 minute walk from Centraal Station. It's also nearby most places you'd want to visit in Central Amsterdam.

“Hotel Avenue: like being back in College”

Very small room. Very hard bed. If I were 20 years younger, this would have been fine, but I am not 20 years younger! Location was good and the morning breakfast was adequate.

“Not Impressed”

The hotel is in a great location, walking distance to anywhere in town. Also the breakfast was very good and convinient in the morning. Our room was on the ground floor and it was dark and dingy. The TV in the room was broken and after informing the staff about it numerous times noting was done, not even an apology or offer to change rooms...I did not even bother to tell them about the leaking sink. I would not stay there again, especially for that price, there are many other hotels in the area.

Getting around
The best way to see Amsterdam is on bike. There is a great rental shop called Discount Bike Rental down the street from Avenue Hotel in an alley right behind the Convent Hotel.
