Breath of Fresh AirPosted Mar 29, 2014
Following a poor start to our trip at a hotel almost next door, we came over to Freeland and had a fantastic stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful. They helped us check in early for no added cost, plus held our bags for an extra five hours on our last day after checkout. Our room had a great private solarium with tea and coffee on a little table with chairs. The hotel itself is older, but the room was clean and the environment was warm. Great location with Leidseplein's main square just steps away. Would definitely stay with Freeland again.

CozyPosted Feb 18, 2014
Small little place. The room was cozy but perfect for one person whose real only interest was sleeping. The staff was great, really pleasant and helpful. Breakfast in the basement was nice and the man working down there was equally as nice. A nice, very reasonably priced place with a lot of character.

For a budget hotel, this was the best I have stayed in in Amsterdam, and I've stayed in lots. The staff were super friendly, the location was perfect and it will be my first choice next time I am in town.

Worst hotel I've stayed in, everPosted Sep 15, 2013
Pros: Absolutely nothing.
Cons: The honesty of the proprietors when contacted by Expedia (or anyone else) about the facilities.
Was told when I arrived that the room (in the basement next to the laundry room) had neither a shower nor a bathroom (no mention of this at booking time). These were 'shared'. The toilet was in fact the hotel's ground floor toilet, up a steep flight of stairs. It was in any case impossible to use because the rim of the toilet was 6 inches from the door when closed. The shower was equally unusable. There was nowhere to hang clothes or towels so they wouldn't be soaked, and the shower head couldn't be attached to the wall but was hung over the taps so you could'nt actually stand under it.The hose leaked and when the shower was turned on water spurted out through the leak, spraying everything in the compartment with water (including your clothes and towels if you had made the mistake of bringing them in). It was very difficult to sleep because the room was next to the boiler and laundry room (where the dryer could be heard as clearly as if it had been placed under the bed) and was sweltering, even with the window open. And of course, since it was a basement room the window was at ground level, and any passing prowler or cat could have strolled in if you had thought of leaving it open to cool things down. Talking of cats, there was a large cat resident, and I am allergic to them. It repeatedly tried to get into my room. No mention of this was made when booking. How Expedia allows this hotel to be on its books at all is a mystery to me. I have slept in better youth hostels.

sitting in their lobby is like a situation comedyPosted Aug 31, 2013 on Hotels.com
The location in perfect. I stayed on the ground floor, if you have any climbing issues ask for a lower floor, there are no elevators. Other than that it's a great place to stay and near everything.

Good location.Posted Jun 10, 2013
Cons: Ugly old carpets
Location: Fantastic, close to tram line, main square and galleries.
Fantastic location, nice staff, hotel needs a bit of money spending on it's fixtures and fittings.

Overall would come back again.Posted Jun 5, 2013
Pros: Friendly host. Location.
Cons: My room was small with just enough room to fit a single bed in. But then I knew I had a budget single room.
Location: Very central.
I chose the budget room with personal shower and toilet. The room was value for money . The location was central. The host was very friendly and offered practical advice.
