Great Hotel if visiting Amsterdam

Hotel was well located and the staff were always very helpful and nothing was to much trouble, Hotel was let down by silly things that had been done to save money I presume ie very cheap plastic spoons in the rooms that melted when you made a drink. no milk but creamer for the tea. Springs poking through the mattress and tea and coffee stains on the skirting board. not the end of the world but not what you expect from a 4 Star Hoted.

nightmare

Pros: nothing at all
Cons: everything, painting walls, lights, bathrooms and towels are gross.
Location: flower market is near
I chose this hotel thinking it was a 4 star hotel, but if this is a 4 star I do not want to see the 3 or 2 star!! Stinking, dark room, towels were gross, not enough light and soft bed. I couldn't wait to walk out!! After spending 2 nights in the Ambassade hotel, a night in the MErcure ruined our vacation.

Central, friendly, amazing breakfast, fab rooms, plus an outside area to have a drink and chill. It is amazingly quiet here. We arrived and were given a complimentary room upgrade to a privilege room, though, so my comments are based on that experience; I don't know what the other rooms are like. I would recommend this hotel to anyone in a heartbeat. The one dilemma I have when I next go there (and I undoubtedly will, after this lovely experience), is whether to book a privilege room at the outset. I have read in other reviews that the standard rooms are quite small, although those reviews could have been from Americans, who, I feel, have a different expectation of room size in comparison to Europeans. In short- great hotel, lovely friendly staff, fun, funky rooms and public areas, excellent value for money, delicious breakfast and a central but quiet location. What more could you want?

Smart hotel in a quiet area of central Amsterdam

Pros: Smart with great facilities
Location: Although not right in the centre of Amsterdam, it is very close to the major canals. Museums about 15 mins walk away.
This was an excellent hotel for an Amsterdam tourist. Situated very close to the Eastern Canal ring, it was easy to walk to all the main tourist attractions and restaurants. The hotel was very well presented. We had a triple room for 3 adults which was great. Very comfy beds. the breakfast was excellent - buffet style but substantial. There was also a lovely bar for a drink at the end of the day. The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English.

Gem of a hotel!

Location: The location is excellent and within walking distance of most of Amsterdam's visitor sites and picturesque canals.
This is an excellent, centrally located hotel within walking distance of many of Amsterdam's finest museums and visitor sites. The rooms are spacious, airy and immaculately clean. It has everything you would expect in a five-star hotel but at four star prices. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom is supplied with a full range of toiletries and the room has not only a coffee-making machine, but full tea-making facilities. The continental breakfast is superb with fresh breads of all descriptions, cheeses, rolls, freshly squeezed oranges and a range of cereals and fresh fruits. The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and very professional. One word of warning- if you book, the above description applies to the 'Privilege' rooms only!

Lovely hotel with fantastic location

Pros: The location is fantastic, situated perfectly between the main town centre and Vondelpark area. Not noisy at all.
Cons: Our room had a few chips in the paintwork etc. which could do with touching up.
Location: The location is brilliant, short walk to Rijkmuseum and Vondelpark and lovely restaurants close by too.
We stayed for four nights in the hotel and the overall experience was really good. Staff were friendly and helpful, our standard double room was cosy and the breakfast had a really nice range of food. Having a hotel computer to print boarding pass etc. off was also really helpful! The hotel was perfect for us as a young couple, with an amazing location and very well priced!

pleasant hotel, close to the canals

Pros: English speakers at reception and very helpful with local information
Location: Close to museums, cafes, and public transport.
We did not use the hotel resteraunt, but found very interesting local cafes. We used the hop on canal boats to get a feel for the place. We did a lot of walking!

Very small room however quite central

Room was tiny. Reasonably clean but not high standard for the price I paid. Could get a bigger room for about 20 euro a night but when was checking in didn't know I will be sleeping in storage room. Front desk stuff was friendly enough and informative. Wouldn't stay there again.

Excellent hotel, great location

My wife and I have just returned from a 4 night stay at the Arthur Frommer Amsterdam and we had a fantastic time. Room was well located and extremely comfortable and clean. Staff were helpful to the max never irritated always attentive to our requests Our first visit to Amsterdam was a fantastic experience which was only increased by the location and help of the staff. Thank you all.
