fabulous shower

A local had warned me about being in the Ulus district; however, I had already booked a nonrefundable room and I read the reviews so I was confidant it would be a nice place. It was! It is next door to the Museum of Ancient Anatolian and across the street from one of the entrances to the Ankara Castle. The best part was the fabulous bathroom. The shower was divine. I heard the food was good. I tried to eat there one night but it was closed due to a private event. I was sad; however, found a lovely restaurant in the castle grounds that had an awesome view of Ankara.

Great place to stay in historical district!

The hotel is new construction, replicating a traditional caravanserai, in front of the Ankara Castle (Kale) and a short walk from the famous anthropology museum. The entire area around the Ankara Castle is being restored to classical Ottoman style architecture. Lots of local shops sell local handicrafts and historical items.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The room was beautifully decorated and had a nice little couch and nescafe maker which I really enjoyed. Bathroom was spacious with separate bath tub and shower. I liked the speaker attached to the bathroom where I could hear the sound of the TV while I enjoy the bath time. Breakfast was amazing, too. It was also fun to walk around the old neighborhood on the hill where the hotel was located. Just staying in this hotel gave me a very good impression of the city of Ankara.

Turkish Delight

The hotel is wonderful and the service is excellent. It is head and shoulders above the chain hotels that are in Ankara. There is a taxi stand directly accross from the hotel so you can catch a taxi almost 24/7 which is great. The breakfast was nothing like you have seen before in a very good way! You can walk down the hill to the bazzar but there is not a lot to buy unless you like kitchen supplies or cheap clothes. You are better to stick to exit the hotel, turn right and walk down the road as there are much better shops to explore. There is a supermarket at the bottom of the road that has just about everything you could want. Buy the checken Doners for TL2.50 as they are tasty. I have to be back in Ankara at least twice a year for a business project and this will be my home while I'm there.

One of Ankara's hidden treasures!
Posted Jan 30, 2012
Pros: The location, value, service, and ammenities.
Cons: That we had to leave.
Location: Located opposite the Ankara Castle in a great area for shopping and sight seeing. Very quiet at night.
By far one of the best accommodations in Ankara if you are looking for a unique stay with personal service immediately opposite the Ankara Castle entrance. If your travels take you this way by all means do not hesitate to stay at the Divan Cukurhan. With spotless, spacious, and well appointed rooms, and any modern amenity you can imagine, it is top notch! Many nearby sights, shopping, museums, and lots of things to do within easy walking distance of the hotel. (note: steep terrain at times; the castle is on a hill after all so good walking shoes are a must.) As an added bonus the hotel also contains a fairly large and memorable eclectic 2 story museum with many "modern" artifacts, displays, and historic pieces along with a very nice dinning area smack in the middle of the museum. We ate our first meal next to a Model T! Don't skip the traditional Turkish morning breakfast either.

One of the best stays in >25 years of travel
Posted Jan 17, 2012
Pros: attention to detail in how they treat their guests and the upkeep of the building is off the charts.
Cons: that I could not stay longer.
I do not normally leave feedback, but my experience was so positive that I am doing so this time. I have travelled extensively for >25 years, and this is one of the best hotels I have ever stay at. The staff was professional and everyone (mgmt to cleaning staff) anticipated the needs of the guests. The hotel was built in the 1600's and fully renovated in early 2000s. I am amazed with the attention to detail in everything from construction (perfectly fitted beam joints, grout lines, tile work) to perfect selection of colors and textures through out. The hotel has works of art and history throughout, which all tie together to make you feel that you are somewhere special and not in a hotel. I highly recommend staying here.

A luxurious stay in Ankara
Posted Jan 1, 2012
Pros: Location, design, history, comfort.
We had just one night in Ankara before heading to some rougher parts of Turkey, so the luxury and comfort here was a delight! With the museum of anatolia civilisations just around the corner, and the interesting shops and markets, it was perfect. The breakfast was absolutely outstanding, the in-room coffee machine a treat. We would love to return!
