Indoor pool not usable if temperature is under 30Posted Jan 19, 2015
Fancy and posh but overrated. Food is very expensive and not great quality. Lots of bugs around. Clean rooms Pool is too cold.

Fantastic views, very friendly staff - lovely!Posted Jan 6, 2015
Pros: The staff, location, the restaurant with the infinity pool.
Location: The views are spectacular and the hotel runs a shuttle service down to local beaches which is very handy.
The staff at Sugar Ridge are fantastic, extremely friendly and helpful. The room, location and views were spectacular. I also used the spa and had a great massage.

Nice hotelPosted Jan 2, 2015
Nice hotel but it's a pity that it doesn't have it's own beach. The beaches with which the hotel has an agreement are crowded with people from cruise ships and the beach chairs are decrepit, so are the umbrellas. This spoils one's stay. Carmichael's restaurant is disappointing.. Overpriced for it's average fare.

Fantastic Holiday!Posted Dec 22, 2014
Pros: The staff truly were excellent; kind, friendly and could not do enough for us. The rooms are fantastic and food/drink services are very good.
Cons: My only criticism is that occasionally (very occasionally) requests for things did take place in 'island time' - but this is the Caribbean after all!
Location: Locally Jolly Harbour is pretty nice and the hotel shuttle you to a number of beaches all of which are worth a visit. Try out the local restaurants to
Having never been to the Caribbean before I was really excited by the prospect of travelling to Antigua, especially as this was a surprise holiday I had booked for my girlfriend. The Sugar Ridge hotel was nothing short of fantastic; the staff and services were excellent and the hotel was well kept and set in a beautiful surroundings. From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed by the staff who could not have been more helpful (when we arrived we were greeted with a fruit punch - no rum alas - which was a lovely touch on a warm day) and they really made the stay special. The rooms are brilliant and the views of Jolly Harbour and the Caribbean could have come from a post card. I cannot really find any fault at all as will probably be demonstrated below. Life is set at a slower pace so if you come to the hotel looking for activities and adventure you would be best to travel out around the island (you are on holiday after all) although some staff do organise local tours which I am told (by other guests) were excellent. Also this is very much an adults/couples hotel and I do not know if I would necessarily recommend this for a family with young children as the facilities are not really there to keep younger children entertained. The pool is also quite snug so bear this in mind if you are hoping to use it for exercise (although the gym was very well equipped). Both hotel restaurants are very good although I would recommend trying restaurants outside of the hotel as well

Antigua ... Sugar Ridge ... !!!Posted Dec 17, 2014
Pros: Staff, location & overall mood.
Cons: Carmichael's overall experience requires refinement & a room maintenance check s/b routine so that travelers are ensured a carefree experience.
Location: Jolly Harbor restaurants, beach bar & grocery store.
The hotel, staff and location are great if you want to explore the island. Pass on Carmichael's for dinner. It was a total bust and disappointment. We are experienced travelers and found this restaurant to be everything but what it claims. During our visit Carmichael's was rated as the #3 restaurant on the island ... SAD !!! SAD in my mind = STAY AWAY DISAPPOINTING ... ))) Our room was great except for 1 minor safe issue. The safe handle was broken off and the wires were dangling. The staff / manager were great but could have done without having to deal with their maintenance issues on my vacation time. Again the manager was great in getting it resolved but should have been reported by the cleaning staff. I am sure that this was an isolated case & would return in spite.

Nice hotel to stay in but there were issuesPosted Dec 4, 2014
Pros: Rooms were comfortable and clean Facilities were great if you did not want to venture out e.g. pools, bars, food and gym
Cons: - Train the staff to be more customer focus at all times - Replenish toiletries - Be prompt in their actions
Location: - A shuttle bus can take you to 3 beaches; Turner's, Darkwood and The Nest. You cannot walk to these beaches. - A supermarket is nearby to buy food
The hotel was great to stay in but we had a few issues: 1) The food at Carmichael's was ok but we were told they were trying to finite the menu. 2) Our toiletries were not replenished so I had to go and ask at reception to leave me some soap. Even when I go there they had not reserve any for us. But Janine and her colleague was nice to help us out 3) There were a few times when the breakfast server's did not bring what we wanted 4) Breakfast was inconsistent e.g. one day I had one bacon and another day I had two 5) When we went to the beach, the driver "Vorn" told us to use the beaches deck chairs so as not to get his bus dirty with sand. Although he was generally a nice guy, we were shocked about this since a) we were at a beach b) there will be sand c) we like exploring and not lounging in a deck chair 6) When we checked out; we asked for a taxi for 2.30pm. When we went back to reception to check, the receptionist looked at my wife with puzzlement. She did not even book our taxi and asked her why we are going to the airport at early. My wife said because we wanted to 7) Only a handful of staff was friendly and the rest would say hello only if you acknowledged them first. Even the security guards ignored us; I could have been a thief/terrorist and gone past the gates with ease. 8) The beach shuttle bus was late at picking us from the beach. One time the driver was late taking us to the beach.

Gorgeous views and incredible infinity pool.Posted Nov 14, 2014
Pros: Newer contemporary spacious rooms on hillside overlooking incredible views. Pools were great.
Cons: More attentive/happy staff? 1 unfortunate incident where we were awaken by someone driving a golf cart at 6:30am yelling and blaring music.
Extremely nice accommodations on hillside overlooking beautiful views of the ocean and green hillsides. Private plunge pool was extra nice room amenity. Contemporary pools and a short walk uphill to an infinity pool by a bar. BUT no beach towels in room upon arrival and after walk to pool and multiple requests for a beach towel - we were told they didn't have any available? First part of November must still be the slow season as there weren't many quests and restaurant service was lacking.

Nice HotelPosted Oct 7, 2014
Pros: Loved the location. Beautiful Grounds that are well maintained. Loved the privacy of the rooms.
Cons: Did not like the half door and the shower. Staff should double check the lighting leading up the to rooms, make sure they are all working.
Sugar Ridge is surrounded by lush vegetation. The hotel grounds are beautiful. We received a warm welcome upon arrival and the check-in process was quick. We stayed the week (Sept 2014) . Our room was clean with a wonderful view of the garden. However, did not like the half door and the shower. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel offers trips to the beach, we did not need it since we rented a car.

A hidden gem in the hills of AntiguaPosted Sep 30, 2014
Pros: Everything!!! The service is second to none.
Cons: Nothing...Everything was perfect.
Location: Gorgeous beaches, snorkeling, jet skiing, kayaking, shopping, 4x4 off roading, hiking, restaurants, and much more.....
Needless to say, we love this beautiful island almost as much as we love Sugar Ridge. Excellent food and even better service. We loved the exclusivity and seclusion of Sugar Ridge. The friendliest staff we have ever met....
