Nice facility, did not meet service expectations

Posted Jun 30, 2015
Pros: Location. Master bedroom size - very comfortable
Cons: Service
Location: Fishing. Shopping downtown.
Towns like Apalachicola would likely rely heavily on tourism based on its coastal locale and role in supplying good seafood across the southeast. At least, the chamber of commerce ought to be figuring out how to lift this town out of what appears to be a challenging economic backdrop. So when I stumbled across the Water Street Inn & Marina, I thought maybe a turnaround of sort were underway. The hotel appears to be recently renovated. It sits over the Apalach waterway and balconies supply incredible views of sunrises. The room layout is good and comfortable, though be prepare that the "second" bedroom in your suite is not bigger than a typcial walk-in closet. They have some work to do on pest control. I was warned by the staff that not taking trash out daily meant "sugar ants" would invade any food items not discarded. This was mildly disappointing. The staff did not seem to mind, however. They seemed rather ambivalent about of the needs of the guests. They shut the office down at 11pm at night. You are toast if locked out of the room or need any help beyond then. They don't open till 8am. We had a couple requests from them that did not get warm responses: matches for cigars to smoke outside; my room wasn't cleaned one day, and a shortage of shampoo. The service is just terrible. I hope the hotel owners in the beautiful town of Apalachicola find a way to encourage its tourism workers to take pride in serving the people there to prop up the economy.

Great quiet location in a wonderful town

Really enjoyed our stay here. Spotlessly clean our suite was huge. Having a washing machine and dryer was an added bonus. Could not fault the staff. Top class!

Pros: The screened balcony overlooking the river was my favorite feature. The breakfast basket was a great idea-didn't have to go downstairs for breakfast.
Cons: Include a copy of instructions re accessing internet in room.
Location: Good location-easy walk to town and numerous restaurants that were not part of 'chains'.
There was a problem with accessing the internet the night we checked in which was attributed to the cable company. Still couldn't access the next morning-it took several calls to front desk to get them to send up someone who explained the procedure. Other than that, staff was very helpful.

A good hotel in a lovely town, but poor breakfast

Posted May 25, 2015
Pros: Great location within walking distance of the main town with generally good facilities
Cons: Yes, the breakfast. Please provide a bowl of fruit and some croissants with jam at least!
Location: Great "old" town with some interesting shops and buildings on the river front. The locals were very friendly and welcoming.
As it was the most expensive hotel on out one week trip, we had high expectations. The rooms were clean and to a high standard. There was a terrific view of over the river and swamps. However, as breakfast was included we were expecting a little more than the small yogurt, small plastic container of fruit and muffin provided each day. On holiday, breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day and we look forward to proper sized breakfast each day. This was particularly disappointing as the breakfast for two was really only suitable for one person! It meant that we had to go out and pay for proper breakfast each day which was disappointing given the high cost of the room. To make it worse, we left one of the muffins on the first day to eat later on expecting a further two muffins to be delivered for breakfast for the following day. Much to our surprise and disappointment, only one muffin appeared!

Beautifully decorated and loved the basket of muffins, fruit and yogurt in the refrigerator...only negatives were a small pool and the screened in porch that obstructed the view.

Wtaer Street Hotel: I would go back

Posted Mar 12, 2015 on Hotels
I liked this hotel! Right on the water, huge rooms, full kitchens, balconies. Fantastic views from 3rd fl room. Fast internet and close to good restaurants (I am a business traveler so those are important). The only negatives were a noise from a motor next to the bedroom (not really loud, but there) and no regular coffee with the coffee pot.I would go back and stay a while.
