“Great Hotel in the Arenal Volcano area!”
I was worried when the drive was very winding up the mountain, but we made it. It cost $175 to take a cab from the airport for this 3 and 1/2 hour drive from San Jose. Once we arrived, we were very pleased with the room and the propertie's beautiful grounds in the rainforest. The rooms are nice, hot tub in the room and extremely clean and the maid made towels into animals and creations on our bed which were so cute! It would have been a beautiful view of the volcano, except that it was foggy from a cold front that blew in, so we couldn't see the volcano at all during our stay. It's quite rainy there, being the rainforest area and all, and a little cooler, so we were glad to have brought pants and hiking shoes. The food at the hotel left a little to be desired as being bland for breakfast, and the lunch was not good at all (would not order their chicken or beef and nachos were inedible as well as the quesadillas), but the fish at dinner was great and even cooked tableside! The location was very close to LaFortuna and restaurants, but the cabs are kind of pricey, $15 each way. The spa smells a little musty but the service was great and my facial was excellent and my husband was very pleased with his massage. Also, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful!!
