“Great for 1 night”
Great for one night. It served it's purpose. Stay away from the dinner buffet...it is downright awful. The hot springs were awesome. Drinks were waaaaaay overpriced. Construction at breakfast was mildly annoying. Overall, it was great to stay for one night before moving on to a different hotel..
“Like resorts? Yes. Want authentic Costa Rica? Nope”
Nothing like it in Costa Rica (that I have ever visited)... This place is awesome if you like the resort style feel... Tons (well dozens) of hot springs pools of various temperatures. Think 98 degrees up to 152 degrees (yes it was that hot)... Lots of waterfalls for the kids to stand under (or adults getting water massages), 3 different waterslides for the kids (or kids in adult bodies). Note that the water slides are fast and a bit rough on the body. The upper most pool section is for adults only and generally was that way during our stay. Several of the pools (I think 4 or 5) had swim up bars that were nice for hanging around and chatting. The spa treatment received was well worth the price on the day we experienced it. Good location for all the other Costa Rican activities (zip lining, canyoneering, hanging bridges, etc). Now for the suggestions... We were there in February, slightly after high season, but not offseason and on a Monday / Tuesday. The hotel itself was not full at all, but the day pass crew was out in full force. The pools were quite busy, but not overcrowded. That said, I could not imagine how crazy it would be during high season on a weekend. I suggest avoiding here if you want peace and quiet / uncrowded areas. It is a great place for taking the kids if they love water. After the rush of the day crowd ended and the following morning, we had the upper pools to ourself and is was FANTASTIC. Very relaxing at that point...
“Nice hot pools, at half the price of Tabacon.”
Staff was decent, not spectacular. The pools are very nice. Many of them with varying tempuratures. This hotel is similar to Tabacon, but at about half the price. Well worth it.
