“Amazing view”

We had a short and wonderful stay here. The room was high on a hill with the most amazing view; in fact, we decided to order room service and just watch the beautiful sunset over the countryside. Although rooms were quite spread out over the property, the shuttle service between room and restaurant/main area was very prompt and friendly. A great breakfast buffet was served in the morning. We took a taxi into nearest town and found Tree Top restaurant..actually formed around a tree. Went zip lining on hotel property - very fun.

“Great Mountain Hotel”

I think the El Establo is the best hotel in Monteverde!! It is very clean and has a mountain cabin style decor that we really appreciated. The rooms were clean and the breakfast bar was excellent with lots of fresh fruit and omelettes. The rooms are not air conditioned, but it didn't matter, because it cools off at night. We opened the windows and woke to some sqauking birds. We really loved our stay there and the staff was very friendly and good with giving driving directions to the places we needed to go.

“Hotel El Establo - a definite MUST”

We decided to head into Monteverde on a whim. Did a few web searches and sifted through pamphlets a few days prior. Hotel El Establo came up as one of the 'premium' accommodations available, and listed rates on some sites definitely reflected that. Expedia beat all rates I came across, so I booked us in. Upon arrival....WOW! Definitely a unique and must visit spot - amazing location, great service & accommodations.....and just a few minutes drive from the parks! You have to go!

A beautiful hotel on an fantastic piece of property. Views to the Gulf, large comfortable rooms, friendly staff and walk to some great restaurants. Buffet breakfast was included and decent. A bar and restaurant on grounds as well. Will definitely return and recommend to friends....

My girlfriend and I spent 3 nights here, including New Year's Eve. We found our room and view to be beautiful as well as the entire hotel to be gorgeous. They had an incredible fireworks display over their 'lake' (more like a pond) that blew us away... they clearly spent a ton of money on it for really only what seemed like a handful of guests! Location = good, 10 min walk to santa elena downtown. walking back is a little tougher because of the huge hills. Local food = if you walk out the front of the hotel and turn left, walk 10 min, there's a restaurant called tramonti's which was the best food we had in all of costa rica. people = everyone friendly. cons.... the hotel is on a mountainside, but they have shuttles to take you to your room. when the hotel is very busy you have to wait around 10 min for your pickup. one last con is price... it is definitley expensive but in return you get a very quiet, isolated, beautifully maintained hotel with gorgeous views all the way to the gulf of nicoya. enjoy!

“Almost makes the drive up from Lagartos worthwhile!”

This is a beautiful, luxurious hotel consisting of many different buildings built on the mountainside. All of the facilites appear to be only a few years old, and our room in the 400 block was fantastic, as were the views. The swimming pools are large and clean. The concierge was very helpful, arranging trips to Selvatura (zip line) and another for an ATV tour. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet (included) was large and included cooked to order omelets and pancakes. The grade on the property is very steep, so you won't be walking uphill much, but they have a free shuttle service that runs often, or you can call and they will pick you up and take you where you need to go onsite. We drove all around town and concluded this was the most luxurious and modern hotel in town. A great experience (the hotel, but not the drive there).

“Resort in the Cloud Forrest”

We enjoyed El Establo very much. Rooms were lovely and grounds very well cared for. In addition there are trails through the canopy. We had an excellent guide on the night tour. The food was very good and the morning breakfast buffet was wonderful, including made to order omelets and pancakes. One of the two pools is lovely with a roof overhead but open sides, protecting the pool from rain and too much sun. The only unfortunate trait was how audible the TV in the next room was. I believe this is true in many of the hotels in the area. Concierge and tour information desk was very helpful. The hotel caters to international clientele.

“El Establo Exceeds Expectations”

We spent two nights at El Establo in Santa Elena, Costa Rica on a recent vacation, and the beauty and comfort of the hotel exceeded my expectations from viewing it online! It's a series of hotel room units built up a hillside, so you need to be ok with the taking their van or your car to go from your room to the main building and restaurant if your room is up high. They are very speedy and courteous when you call for a van--they have several and I have waited longer for a elevator in a big hotel than I ever did for transportation here! If you are in Costa Rica for adventure, this is what you're here for-- a spectactular view down the mountain all the way to the bay! The rooms are modern, comfortable and attractive and the balcony with rocking chairs provides the most amazing view- an added perk. The bathrooms are huge and ultra modern--all high ceilings and stone tile. They have a 2nd restaurant halfway up the hill if you don't want to travel all the way to the bottom (a 2 minute van ride). The food is very good, the included breakfast buffet a great way to start a day of hiking or zip line and the (mostly) bilingual staff very helpful. Concierge Erroll was a great help in booking us for Selvatura and the jeep/ferry/jeep transportation to Arenal Volcano. The hotel also has night hikes to see wildlife and their own zip line but we did not try those, nor did I try the spa but they have it all.

We stayed at 4 different hotels in Costa Rica on our honeymoon and this was our favorite. The staff are excellent and the view is amazing.
