Convenience without the frills!
I don’t spend much time in the room when I travel. I am inclined to choose hotels with fewer amenities so I can afford more experiences. Clean and safe suit me. Hotel El Volcan is within walking distance to everything, much more affordable than most and the staff went above and beyond to provide me anything I wanted. The menu of activities offered with hotel help is extensive. Very accommodating!

The owners are super nice and very polites. Location is only a few meter from the main plaza. The night life is incredible.

Close to everything but cleanliness???
Very close to beautiful town centre. The owner is very nice and helpful. The room we got was full of little critters (ants) in bathroom sink and around doors. The sheets in the bed had small black flakes, not sure what it was, maybe fleas -related? I was worried especially travelling with children.

Good location, good staff
The hotel was really close to the main road and plaza area (2 minute walk). The front desk staff was really helpful and organized trips for us super short notice! Although the actual room we stayed in for one night wasn't the best. It was moldy and definitely could have been cleaner. Overall it was fine for staying a night but for longer trips I would look elsewhere.

Bit depressing but Ok I guess
Overnighted here. It was passable and clean enough but made me feel a bit icky to be honest. I dropped my eyeliner in the bathroom and threw it away rather than wash it off and use it again. I wasn't sad to leave but I wouldn't go as far as to say that it was a bad place to stay. If I had to stay for more than one night I'd probably have enjoyed my trip a lot less though.

Inexpensive comfortable small place
We chose El Volcan because of the reviews lauding the host, and were not disappointed. Luis was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Our first night he recommended a local restaurant where we had the best steak (ribeye) we'd ever eaten. The beds were OK, although the pillows were just egg crate foam in pillowslips. Despite that, we slept very well. The hotel has an outdoor covered patio with a common refrigerator and microwave (put away late at night). No dishes, however, but handy anyway. It's within easy walking distance of most of the town, and the walks were pleasant.

Affordable, close to town center
Wonderful little room, very modest, simple, don't expect a standard US-room by any means. I thought it was a great lil find. Site mgr was very helpful and friendly. Has wifi, hot water and is in the town. Downside is room facing the street hears everyyyything. Overall great.

Great place for people on a budget.
Close to downtown, clean and the owner was very helpful. Wifi connection is so so depending on your room, but this problem I found through out Costa Rican hotels.

Don't stay there.
I don't recommended this hotel at all. No clean and a very bad smell that my wife had to sleep in the car. Smell mold everywhere, on pillows, mattresses, it's horrible.

great location, great price
Luis and his staff were very helpful and courteous. The town of La Fortuna was very safe and a nice place to shop and eat. One place, Rainforest Cafe had good local food at great prices. Overall the hotel fit our needs well.

The owner was very nice but not what it appeared to be online. I wasn't really comfortable with the location. The bed was very hard so it was hard to sleep. But there was air conditioning which was nice.

The staff was good and very friendly. Ensure to ask for clean towels, the towels I receive didn't smell Fresh! Many hotels to choose from in this town,Less than a 5 minute walk to the bus station. Only cost $5 American dollars to travel to San Jose to La Fortuna on the bus.

Basic room with bathroon, hot & cold water, on ground floor next to road so had to keep curtains closed at all times. Some road noise but not too bad, Aircon worked OK but was first generation thru the wall type and was VERY noisy so it couldn't be left on for long

OK for the price
The receptionist was extremely helpful and knowledgeable . The hotel itself is ok , unpretentious and centrally located in the town of La Fortuna, walking distance to everything. They sell well priced passes to other spa resorts . The only thing , there is no coffee in the morning, so the closest place to buy coffee early is at the bakery Musana, some 500m away.

A nice staff but hotel would need improvements
The hotel's staff was very friendly and helpful. However, the room's bed wasn't comfortable and there were insects crawling on the walls... It seemed to be highly priced for the value we were getting compared to other places in town...

Terrible hotel
This hotel is terrible.. The springs were beaming out from the bed... Bathroom was horrible... There is no raised platform in the shower or a stall, so when you shower all the water overflows into the entire bathroom and to the bedroom as well... Only upside is the location because it just two blocks from LA Fortuna downtown. The hotel staff was nice enough to hold our bags for a few hours after check out... But the rooms itself were not in great condition...

Awesome lodging for young travelers
The hotel manager was really, really helpful with our travel lodgings in our visit in La Fortuna. The rate is very reasonable for a place where it is close to the downtown. Would highly recommend anyone to stay there.

Very nice guy running the place HOWEVER
Killed coachroach first thing. You could stick your fingers under the door so I took towels to keep the bugs out. Woke up the next morning to trash aon our rental car. Left with one day left to our stay but didn;t ask for our money because the young man was so nice and trying so hard,

Fit for purpose
I stayed for 2 nights in April 2013 when the whole town was pretty empty, so I was given the choice of two rooms. I chose room 1 which faces on to the road outside. The room was spacious, clean, with 2 beds, air-con and a TV. The bathroom/shower could probably do with some upgrading. You should bear in mind though that if you are staying in La Fortuna you will be out most of the time doing activities, and for the time that you spend in the hotel the facilities are perfectly adequate. The town is small so everything is within a short walk.

Originally booked for a single night passing through Arenal Park, I opted to stick around for an extra day come the following morning. Staff extended my stay in a jiff. Of course, they were very friendly and provided useful information. Single room was about 180 sq ft and had everything you needed, except a phone. Hostels are good options to reduce costs, but this place was a step above and was worth it!

This hotel was absolutely stinky, air conditioner was not working properly & bathroom was too much stinky. Beds were smelly & sheets & blankets were totally stained,old & smelly. Never ever go to this hotel.

Excellent Downtown location
Hotel is located in downtown of fortuna, to get to the plaza you have to walk only 2 blocka, less than 2 minutes. Many restaurants, "sodas" and stores nearby. Private location. Hotel service is awesome!! Our A/C stopped working one night and i told manager early in the morning, he got it fixed in less than 3 hours and let us sleep in another room while he fixed it. Also they have very good prices for trips and tours. He even helped us find transport to our next destination. I am very happy with this hotel's service, location, privacy and hospitality. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a place downtown and a good price. I will definitely stay there in my next trip to fortuna

The owner/employee was very nice and helpful, the room was badly maintained, towels had holes, unless you are on a tight budget i do nor recommend this hotel.The area is safe and in the center of the town.

Wonderful Hotel El Volcan
Our manager Louis was excellent. He took care of everything we needed, including transportation and phone calls and reservations !!! The price was great, hot showers , good food and nice big beds.... Nice dining in kitchen also for guests. Would receommend this hotel highly. It was a pleasure staying here. Thank you Louis !!!

The staff were pleasant and helpful. Shower was big and water pressure was high. Plenty of hot water!! Small ac unit needs to be left on when ur gone to keep it cool enough. No coffee in am. That would have been a treat

A cool name for a great hotel.
My two girls and I loved our stay at El Volcan. The staff was SUPER friendly and helpful. We were able to book our excursions from the hotel - no problem. It was also in easy walking distance from the town. I'd recommend this hotel to my friends.

Nice Little Hotel
Close to town. Not the Hilton by any means, but it is a nice little hotel. The owner and staff were very friendly and always willing to help with daily plans. Two small blocks away from the main street that runs through town.

Much Better Than Expected
This hotel greatly exceeded my expectations! My wife, 2 young teenagers and myself booked it as they could acommodate 4 in a room with 2 Queen beds. The rooms were very clean,shower was very good size with great water pressure and plenty of hot water as well.The manager,Mauricio, was so very helpful and honest that after 3 nights stay he felt like famiry! Mauricio also booked our Baldi Hot Springs day and also the Sky Tram and Zip Line trip thru the office and saved us a considerable sum of money compared to retail rates.The view of the volcano right out the door of the hotel was unbelievable! The hotel is 1/2 block from the City Center Park and directly across the street from the Park was La Parada soda, a 24/7 authentic Tico restaraunt that had excellent food served either off the menu or at the buffet. The prices of the motel and also the food at the soda mentioned were very fair compared to the rest of our 8 day Costa Rican trip. Overall, I must say that this stay was much better than we expected and Mauricio was a true and honest manager that represents the true meaning of Pura Vida. Give them a try,you will not be disappointed

The only minus was very noisy airconditions both in our room and also from the neighbour room and some trafic noise. Apart from that a fine hotel at that price, and good service from the reception.

choose others if you have a choice
It feels like staying in a basement as most of room don't have a window, or the window is open to the common area and won't have any sun shine coming in even if you open it. The room is very small and if you don't put " please clean it " sign out they won't clean it. Air conditioning barely works and TV can't be smaller.
