The hotel grounds and proximity to the volcano are the highlights of this establishment. The room was clean and adequate, but we thought we were going to get a bungalow. We did not but as someone who has worked at hotels before, booking through Expedia usually means your going to get the economy room even if your reservation says something else. The staff were amazing and very accommodating, the first day we were told breakfast was till 10:30 but really it's 9:30 and they still gave us a complementary breakfast. Breakfast and the jacuzzi are definitely selling points at this hotel.

Base of Volcano

We really like are room and that it was spotless. Breakfast the next day was fresh and had good choices. The only thing that might have bothered us was that the bed was squeaky. We would stay again. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Thanks for the pleasant stay.

Great location for going places

Posted Jan 18, 2015
Pros: Particularly the gardens
This hotel has great location, a few km from the town and a few more the other direction, to the volcano. The grounds and gardens were absolutely spectacular. The bungalows were very clean and staff very friendly.

Good location

Posted Jan 13, 2015
Pros: Location
Cons: One of the staff members at reception was not very professional/friendly.
The hotel is situated away from the main road and has beautiful gardens surrounding it. From the lounge and swimming pool there are great views from Arenal's bottom three quarters. The top part never showed itself during our 4 day stay! Always covered in clouds. We did see the top for a few minutes from another location. We stayed in the economic row of rooms away from the main buildings of the hotel. I would recommend spending a bit more in order to have better views and surroundings. (Higher up closer to the main buildings). The daily breakfast and evening buffet was very good.

Good hotel

Cons: Price of the menú. Fish fajitas are expensive for the amount of food.
I really liked everything there. The prices of the restaurant are kind of high. But the place is beautiful and the staff is really kind.

Great rooms with outstanding views

Posted Nov 25, 2014
Pros: Nice, clean, comfortable accomodations in a great setting. Plentiful breakfast, good coffee, nice bar with great view of volcano Arenal.
Location: Lots to do including high canopy hanging bridges, horseback riding, water sports on Lake Arenal, volcano hiking, hot springs spas, visit La Fortuna
Our room was perfect with a great view of Volcan Arenal. Each "room" is actually an individual cabin with a large bedroom/living area and large bathroom. The whole facility is beautifully landscaped with luscious plants of all sizes and colors everywhere you look. The staff was always available, helpful, and knowledgeable. There is a lot to do in the area. We hiked the trails around the most recent lava flow, went horse back riding (more fun than I expected!), experienced guided nature tours including the high canopy hanging bridges and early morning bird watching, and twice took advantage of a local thermal hot springs spas and a convenient poolside bar. With four cameras going, we probably took close to 1000 photos here.

Honeymoon at Lomas del Volcán

Posted Nov 20, 2014
Pros: Bungalows, pool, view, restaurant, bar, staff, landscape, peace of mind!
Cons: If anything could be approved, I would find a way to get the resort closer to California so we can visit more often.
Location: Downtown La Fortuna was a $6 cab ride and awarded great nightlife and restaurants (Lava Lounge). Also, zip lining, hot springs, rafting, ATV, relaxing
Bungalows are amazing. The staff is very courteous and remembered our names and needs. The answer was always yes and immediate handled. We stayed two nights and woke up each morning to blue sky's and a view of the volcano. I recommend Lomas del Volcán to anyone who wants the true Costa Rican jungle experience in a safe, cozy and visually appealing atmosphere. We drove nearly 1,000 km around Costa Rica and Lomas del Volcán was by far the best landscaped and cleanest resort. Well done! Cant wait to go back! Safe, safe, safe!

Great accommodations at the base of the volcano.

We spent 3 days at Lomas del Volcan before moving onto Monteverde, Manuel Antonio, Puerto Viejo and finally San Jose. 14 days in Costa Rica coast to coast. Amazing!

Beautiful and very Scenic Lomas Del Volcan.

Posted Nov 4, 2014
Pros: Everything!!!!!
Cons: The mattresses could be upgraded to newer more comfortable ones.
Location: Plenty of things to do nearby. There is plenty of individuals selling tours, excursions, and day trips in town. All hot springs are very close by.
You'll find this Hotel just leaving the town of La Fortuna. So its great to be at the outskirts of town to avoid all the hustle and bustle. The Hotel is not roadside. You have to take a little drive up the hill to get to it which includes part of it a bumpy dirt road. But once getting there, this hotel is nestled on one of the most beautiful scenic places I've ever seen! The grounds are kept up really well and the surrounding Jungle is just amazing. We had a perfect view from our back porch of the Arenal Volcano and thoroughly enjoyed it! The cabanas/rooms may seem a little close together but they offer plenty of privacy and we never felt crowded. The staff is very friendly and you will always see them working and cleaning like busy bees everyday. Our maid went out of her way to make our anniversary trip special by making us flower and animal towel arrangements on our bed everyday. The breakfast is similar every day with only one to two differences daily but there's enough there to please anyone. The only gripe we had was that our bed was very very firm. We woke up with sore backs the first day. But all we had to do was ask the maid for a mattress topper or extra comforters to make our sleep bearable. Overall a very nice hotel, friendly people, and the scenery cannot be beat. If we go back, we will definitely stay here again!

Only if there is no other option

Quirking beds and floor and noisy fridge so no option to sleep when someone else is moving in the room. Mice feces was on the bed when we entered the room! Nice view though.
