Lost (and Sneaky Good) IguanaPosted Oct 31, 2013
#1 - FANTASTIC view of Arenal. Our patio had a perfect view of the volcano which was literally framed by the lush flora around us. We stayed at other places and none had this good of a view. Yes, the room was a bit musty - but you ARE in a rain forest. If you expect there to be no moisture in the air, please ask yourself how a rain forest works. By all means, take a walk on the trails behind the property. They are free and other places charge $25+ for this feature. They are also a 5-minute golf cart ride to the hanging bridges - which the front desk will get you a discount on. And the hanging bridges are a MUST!

It was just okPosted Aug 21, 2013 on Hotels.com
We were there for 4 days. Service was ok, not great. The food was ok, not great. The pool is nice and the hiking trails nearby are nice...overall pretty average and ok if you get a good deal on the room rate. Othwise I'd go elsewhere.

A wonderful resort to experience the beautiful hum of the rainforest. First visit to CR, and was very, very happy with Lost Iguana. Every aspect of this resort was impressive and would absolutely return here.

Our Arenal Volcano experiencePosted Aug 17, 2013
This is beautiful area and the resort is a must if you are going to the Arenal Volcano. It has all the luxury but at the same time you are surrounding by nature. The staff is very professional and kind plus the food is really good. Do not miss the SPA. Also very closed to the hanging bridges.

Lost directionPosted Aug 17, 2013 on Hotels.com
Lost Iguana is a nice property with a lot more potential then they offer. The hotel has great (dormant) volcano views, nice grounds and a wonderful spa, but is in need of fresh management and direction to make it worthy of a return. It is in a remote location relative to the local town and attractions, a $30 cab fare each direction to the town of La Fortuna, or $20 each way to Tabacon. They tout wi-fi, but we came to find it was only in the reception building at the bottom of the hill. When I asked about it in the restaurant area they said it was turned off, for if it was turned on people may want to hang out there ... duh. Arriving at the pool/bar area for a swim there were no towels available and after a bunch of running me around they let me know they were out of towels, and it would be 30 to 45 minutes before they could have any. As it was not busy there I was shocked and let him know that it was impossible a "resort" such as this could be out of towels, and after some reluctance they came back a few minutes later with towels in hand. The restaurant had a decent buffet breakfast, but for lunch or dinner was boring and overpriced, with ok food. Drinks were also pricey, they had a one hour 2 for 1, but at that time beer became 2 glasses of beer for 1 at $5 or $6, + the 23% tax and tip charge. It would be a much better value to stay at Tabacon where admission to the springs ($62 per person) is included with the room.

Wonderful hotel and helpful staffPosted Jul 31, 2013
Pros: Grounds, rooms, staff
Location: Far from other hotels, close to arenal & hidden bridges (complimentary drive by staff). Grounds stunning; feels ike you're in paradise.
Staff is amazing, helpful. Master suite room out of this world - volcano view, outdoor shower, jacuzzi on patio, hiking on the hotel grounds, above average food and drinks. No complaints whatsoever.

A hidden gem with wonderful viewsPosted Jul 26, 2013
Pros: Hotel staff was ALWAYS helpful and cheerful. We were happily surprised to find an extra twin bed had been added for my teenage daughter.
Cons: Restaurant should open at dawn.
Location: Excellent view of the volcano, whitewater rafting, zip lining, jungle hikes, wildlife rescue center nearby, lots of birds and other wildlife.
The Lost Iguana is just far enough from town to offer real seclusion while being close enough to take advantage of everything La Fortuna and the surrounding area has to offer. It's a wonderful 120 acre property with plenty of trails through the jungle. Each building is situated to make you feel like it's the only one there. There is only one restaurant on site and it doesn't open until 7:00AM. A nightly dinner special and opening in time to feed those heading out for early morning adventures would both be welcomed on our next visit. I would recommend this hotel above all others in the area!

Beautiful views of Arenal Volcano from roomPosted Jul 23, 2013
Pros: Refer to Pros above
Cons: I was given to understand that the bathrooms in the Deluxe suite are far superior to those in the standard Double Room that we occupied.
Location: Wherever stay in the area, you need a rental car or to take tours everywhere you go.The hotel has some gorgeous trails & is close to hanging bridges.
Every room has this view, weather-permitting, in a lush jungle Pros: 1. beautiful trails on grounds 2. friendly, helpful restaurant staff 3. lovely pool & heated pool at swim-up bar 4. opportunity to socialize with other guests at the pool bar 5. fantastic spa with awesome staff & magnificent setting. Cons: 1. awful musty odor that no amount of candle-burning would shake 2. shabby bed linens & bath towels 3. bathroom had no place to put toiletries 4. shower didn't drain quickly enough & water overflowed from shower onto bathroom floor 5. the front desk person on duty for most of our stay was not helpful with tour bookings & claimed no knowledge of any tour that was not through the 3 companies the hotel worked with. The hotel materials refer to a full-time person who was available to assist with tour & other queries about local attractions. Not once did we meet such a person nor were we referred to this person.

Great locationPosted Jul 22, 2013
Cons: The room could be updated and made a little more modern.
Location: Do the hanging bridges which are close to the hotel and white water rafting with Desafia Adventures - Amazing!
The room was slightly below average but the location more then made up for it. The grounds are beautiful and totally worth going for.
