While it can be a temptation to limit yourself to just the local sights while vacationing in Arenal, keep in mind that the surrounding region's numerous scenic delights lie just beyond your doorstep. If you're looking for other places to check out, you'll find El Tanque, 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the west, and Fortuna 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the east.
Around 18 miles (29 kilometers) to the east of Arenal is Fortuna, an important regional city where you'll find Arenal Adventure World, Reno's International Mini Golf and Termales Los Laureles. If your itinerary allows check out Arenal Volcano National Park, Miravalles Volcano and Arenal Natura Ecological Park before you return to Arenal.
If the weather is fine, take the time to explore Northern Plains' open-air markets.
