“Impressed”

I had checked availability at other hotels around town for something with a view from the room. They were priced very high. I found hotel italia (no view from room) for much less and was very happy to find a friendly staff in a clean and comfortable hotel. They have a fabulous view from their breakfast room and a nice breakfast was included in the rate. When arrived at train station we couldn't find a cab and so we called the hotel and they got someone to come and get us. They assisted us with dinner reservations also. Great service! I would definately stay here again.

“Great location, friendly and helpful stafff, clean, fairly priced.”

Staff was very kind and helpful. Rooms very nice, just small and a stiff bed, but normal for euro standards. Can't say enough good things about this place and the staff. Placed perfectly in the middle of Cortona.

“Great Hotel”

We had a very nice stay at this hotel. We stayed 5 nights. The room was a nice size and very clean. The staff was very friendly. There was an honor bar in the lobby, which made it nice to be able to get a cold drink in the evening after a long hot day. It's about a 15 minute walk from the main tourist attractions, but it's a nice walk in a good neighborhood. We would very much like to stay there again.

“Van Gogh's Room at Arles!”

The tile in the lobby is from 1100 AD, the upper floors were built between 1400 and 1600. Every room in the hotel is different! Number 48 didn't have much of a view (like looking out into a little brick "courtyard" the size of a chimney), but the vast ceilings, beautiful bells outside, and 2 toilets for our 2 twin bed room more than made up for the view! Extremely helpful staff and very adequate breakfast in a lovely sunny room with a gorgeous view. I would stay here again - have already recommended it to someone go over in a couple of weeks.

A good 3-star hotel, with very pleasant rooms, all recently renovated, in the heart of this little hill-top town. Extremely helpful staff. Terrace breakfast room with breathtaking views, and decent breakfast.

“Italy at its best”

We found Hotel Italia exactly to our tastes: unpretentious, yet elegant in simple, gracious style. It is perfectly situated, right in the centre of the city, and remarkably peaceful, given its position. The view from the breakfast terrace room is spectacular. The hotel is spotlessly clean. The staff, from manager down, could not have been more obliging, giving the impression that they took pride and pleasure in their work.

“Beautiful Hotel Italia”

Hotel Italia is a beautiful little hotel, right in the heart of Cortona. The man (sorry I did not get his name) who runs the hotel was the nicest, friendliest person I met in all of Italy. He made phone calls to inquire about places I asked about and went out of his way to give us directions to everything. He spoke excellent English. Small room but very high beamed ceilings, very clean, window overlooked a little courtyard. Bathroom was spotless clean, beautiful marble. Breakfast was served on the fourth floor which had a beautiful view of the valley below. Breakfast was excellent. Getting to the hotel is somewhat of a challenge if you aren't used to driving on steep, narrow, cobbbled streets! There was free parking at the bottom of the hill. We nearly died climbing that steep hill with our luggage! We hope to return to Hotel Italia again someday.

“Impressive location”

Impressive location (2000 meters high). Slendid view from dining room. Huge bathroom & fully equipped. Manager (or owner) Mauricio very welcoming, fully devoted to make your stay the best ever, always available for advice concerning what to visit and how to do it. Cortona has a long history and he knows all about it. Our stay there was very pleasant.

“A Very Nice Hotel”

We stayed in the hotel in Oct., 2007, and had never been to Europe before. We found it be easy to get to, 100 ft from the town square, and centrally located to everything. It's a bit hard to find at first. It was not one of Expedia's top 5 picks, but it appeared to be in the center of town which was important. The hotel, a series of converted buildings, dates back to the 14th century. The front desk was very helpful with restaurant sugeestions. The room was nice. It had a TV, 13" model, but everything was in Italian. If we went again, we'd probably stay outside the town, so we could have a car. You can't rent a car and stay inside Cortona. There is no room for them. But if you want to stay in the heart of the Cortona, the hotel is perfect.

“Not Very Good”

The location is great. The breakfast and breakfast room are wonderful. There are spots of elegance and taste in the lobby. BUT: the lobby seems to be unmanned most of the time, and there is nobody there late at night. The desk staff (when there) were less than welcoming. The room we got was very dark, and the light sensors in the hallway were slow, so that you had to walk in total darkness for a few yards in and out of your room (and a flashlight was necessary in the room). To get any air you had to open a window that even I could have come into from a window in the hallway (i.e not secure). The room safe had no instructions (but you needed a flashlight to see it anyway.) There was a room off the lobby that in any other hotel would be for the guests' use, but seemed to be set aside for some children in residence. So it was not a warm and welcoming and well-run place -- despite that surface elegance.
