Wonderful hotel, just steps from the main piazza.Posted Oct 3, 2013
Pros: Location, size of room, cleanliness, and hotel staff.
Cons: Breakfast is just so-so for such a nice hotel. But the breakfast room was very nice.
Location: Cortona is the setting for Under the Tuscan Sun and the area around it is beautiful. For a relatively small town, lots of eating choices, all great.
We stayed 3 nights, enjoying Cortona and taking day trips to Gubbio, Assisi, Todi and Orvieto. San Michele was a perfect choice as a base. Largest hotel room that we had in Italy. Large even by U.S. standards.

Fabulous !!!Posted Aug 18, 2013
Pros: It was very clean, friendly and helpful staff, and interesting History
Cons: High ceiling and the central location
Location: It was perfect, just around the corner from the main square... But not noisy
This Hotel was great and very central to the main hubb... Basically around the corner. The staff could have been more helpfull, helping us with direction, events and taxi service when we left. Our room was spacious and very clean, the high ceiling really add to the charm. I would highly recommend this hotel in anyone, ask the staff about the history of the hotel... Very interesting. Ideal location in town centre. Charming staff.Posted Jul 9, 2013
Friendly and very charming staff, especially behind Reception desk. Excellent breakfast buffet. Recently introduced daily tourist tax levied was unreasonably high at €3 per person per day (in Pisa it was just €1.50 pp pd) but apparently this charge is beyond the control of the individual hotels. Don't forget to factor it into your budget, and be aware that it is charged as a separate item at check-out even if you have pre-paid for the hotel. Have stayed at the San Michele 7 times and would certainly choose it again.

Stay right in Cortona's Centro StoricoPosted Jun 24, 2013
San Michele is one of the top hotels in the beautiful Tuscan town of Cortona, it is located just steps from the Piazza Republica, Cortona's "living room." The hotel is in a renaissance palazzo and the decoration subtly reflects this beautiful heritage. The staff were extremely helpful, especially when I misplaced a piece of luggage. I would recommend it to anyone.

A top quality find!Posted Jun 13, 2013 on Hotels.com
What a fantastic hotel. It was like spending five days in paradise! The staff was professional, courteous, and friendly. Daniele, front office staff, was especially helpful and very knowledgeable about the history of the region. The room was exceptional in every respect. The breakfast room was beautiful and the selection plentiful. We will definitely return to this hotel the next time we are in Cortona.

Spectacular facility in the center of CortonaPosted May 13, 2013
Excellent hotel in every way in a wonderful historic pallazo. In the absolute center of Cortona, 50 feet from the main Piazza. The room was great in every way. Probably our nicest room in all of Italy. The staff was especially helpful, friendly and attentive to any question or need. Truely excellent service and we were always met with a smile.

We arrived at 2am on Friday night and the night porter was so helpful and friendly, we felt immediately at home. Great building with lots of potential, last refurb looks like late 80s mid 90s, but you can't beat the location, just round the corner from the main square.

Should take room upgrade. Be wary the hotel is not is a convienient position and the manageress charges you for everything, including the fact that the you cannot get up the hill to the hotel from Street level sp they charge you 10 Euro. I also asked for a Country Code and showed her my mobile phone and she told me to use her phone. How refreshing when she then says I owe her 39 Euro when I could do it on my own for not much. The same applied to the restaurant next door, she recommended it and they refused to itemise everything we ate and charged us well in excess of what we had. But the blonde lady in the evening is lovely and so is the owner.
