“Hard to find. You'll be glad you did.”

This small hotel in the charming town of Nafplio is a great find. It has recently been remodeled as a hotel by the family that previously lived in the place. It it several blocks above the main square in the old town of Nafplio. It is at the foot of a charming stairway that leads up to the Venetian fort that towers above the town (not the Turkish fort, but the Venetian one. As you will find out, Nafplio has a rich past going back to Mycenaean times). The rooms have been made thoroughly modern in a way that very much respects the 18th century ambiance of the house and of Nafplio itself. Family members run the hotel and are very helpful and attentive. A very charming find. And difficult to find it was. Since it is new, none of the locals know where it is. From the train station, where I arrived, it is a reasonable hike into the old part of town. There were no taxis at the train station. The operator of the gaming / internet cafe across the street from the train station called the phone number that I had from the Expedia site and told me that it was near to the bus station. It turned out to be near, but not immediately adjacent. It is about 3 blocks from the bus station, past a couple of small piazzas. After walking in ever widening circles around the bus station for about 30 minutes, I finally found it. But, as I say, after I found it, I was glad that I did.

The owner went out of her way to make us feel really welcome. At breakfast time she even went out to get some ice tea for our son who doesn't drink coffee. The room was very comfortable with an en-suite containing a jacuzzi bath, much to my wife's delight! Nafplion is a delightful town and the Hotel Aetoma was the icing on the cake.

I don't usually bother with filling in surveys / reviews but feel the Aetoma should be given its just desserts. Everything about it - location, breakfast, wonderful shower, great service including eagerness to offer free tea and snacks if you pop back during the day - impresses. I cannot praise it highly enough.

The most striking aspects of the hotel are the staff, who are as charming and helpful as they could possibly be, and the hotel itself, which is an impeccably redone family townhouse. The only thing our room lacked was a view of the sea, but it made up for it by opening onto a charming (and thankfully very quiet) street.

Surprisingly quiet night for location. Charming, helpful, personable, efficient and willing hostess/owner. Prepared breakfast earlier than their normal schedule so we could start sightseeing earlier. Breakfast was superb and so ample we could hardly rise from our seats! She surprised us by handing us a box lunch before we departed. A VERY nice gesture and most welcome as we were headed to somewhat remote Mycenae. Pay close attention to map and directions to the hotel if you are driving. Most Americans wouldn't believe you drive in a lane narrower than any alleyway to reach the Aetoma Hotel. But once you've succeeded, you are in for a delightful experience. We were welcomed and hosted like visiting family members; very unique feeling. Hotel location ideal. A few minutes walk to everything in Nafplion. Wish we could have stayed one more night.

One of the nicest small hotels we have ever stayed in! There are only 5 rooms - each with its own name - & the quality of appointments & decor is lovely. It calls itself a family hotel & truly, guests are made to feel completely at home. From the warm welcome, incredibly generous breakfast & help in planning day trips or finding a nice restaurant, one could not ask for anything more. Its location in the centre of the old town of Nafplion is utterly charming & this city makes a wonderful base for exploring the many treasures of classical Greece to be found in this area.
