“Hard to find. You'll be glad you did.”
This small hotel in the charming town of Nafplio is a great find. It has recently been remodeled as a hotel by the family that previously lived in the place. It it several blocks above the main square in the old town of Nafplio. It is at the foot of a charming stairway that leads up to the Venetian fort that towers above the town (not the Turkish fort, but the Venetian one. As you will find out, Nafplio has a rich past going back to Mycenaean times). The rooms have been made thoroughly modern in a way that very much respects the 18th century ambiance of the house and of Nafplio itself. Family members run the hotel and are very helpful and attentive. A very charming find.
And difficult to find it was. Since it is new, none of the locals know where it is. From the train station, where I arrived, it is a reasonable hike into the old part of town. There were no taxis at the train station. The operator of the gaming / internet cafe across the street from the train station called the phone number that I had from the Expedia site and told me that it was near to the bus station. It turned out to be near, but not immediately adjacent. It is about 3 blocks from the bus station, past a couple of small piazzas. After walking in ever widening circles around the bus station for about 30 minutes, I finally found it. But, as I say, after I found it, I was glad that I did.
