Nice location, nice outdoor facilitiesPosted Dec 2, 2013
Overall, we had a very nice time. Hotel staff and outdoor amenities were great. The room was very small, there was mold in the bathroom and the hotel needed some updating. Two of the restaurants were great, the other two were old and the food was terrible. The main buffet hall was less than desirable. Eating dinner there was actually depressing. It has the feel of a college dining hall. Much different than other all inclusives that I stayed at. If they update the restaurants and rooms, this would be a great hotel.

Wouldn't stay here, thieves on the staff.Posted Nov 19, 2013
Stayed a week and was ready to leave a couple days after getting there because of the Occidental Grand being so bad. The food was horrible, we tried multiple times at the buffets and couldn't eat any of it so we ate outside the resort everyday. There was poop on the toilet from previous guests, mold in the bathroom, the bed was hard, and the staff went through our bags/clothes/etc and stole from us. We reported it immediately and the Incompetent "security"staff laughed at us and brushed us off for Three days till we finally got police involved. The resort staff wouldn't get us any management except the "security" manager who didn't care at all. The men who brushed us off did offer to email us an upgrade "next" time we stay there as if we'd actually return(not going to happen!) Do not recommend this place to anyone!!

Right on the beach.Posted Nov 16, 2013
Pros: Nice rooms and island is very safe. Never got harassed by locals.
Cons: 5 hours spent with hotel owners on buying time share.
Location: Town in walking distance and bus ride for shopping.

Loved Occidental GrandPosted Nov 9, 2013
Overall great experience! Started off with a smooth check-in with private check-in with a champagne toast. Room was good, not much of a view from our deluxe room but we were hardly ever in it. Ate at Zen twice (once on the Hibachi side), Olio and the Caribbean restaurant during our stay, as well as the buffet for breakfast and lunch every day and it was great! Every day there were different options at the lunch buffet. The beach was amazing, especially the free rafts provided by the hotel. Never had an issue getting chairs to lay on when we arrived to the beach (usually around 10AM) though if you wanted a Palpela we heard you had to get to the beach around 6AM. The weather was perfect every day we were there and if it rained it only did for an hour or less, then it cleared up and was sunny again the rest of the day. The hotel is across the street from tons of shops, vendors, bars and restaurants and it was very safe walking around without anyone haggling you. My only issue with The Occidental Grand was the pillows in the room. They were terrible! But overall that was a small issue and we Loved Aruba and would return to the Occidental Grand again!

Comfortable bed & great entertainmentPosted Nov 6, 2013
Pros: Absolutely great value for an all inclusive. Great entertainment, water sports, met nice mix of Foreigners & USA. Convientiently located 2everything!
Cons: Your front desk lacked organization & professionals. They constantly disappeared to the back & never helpful.
Location: Lots of great shopping & great selections of restaurants.
Love the entertainment, water sports, comfortable bed, well kept grounds, and good assortment of food. Just difficulty get reservations in the specialty restaurants.

Cons: better communication and service at the management level
hotel staff- from initial invite and subsequent help was not great. they promised us beach front room and we payed $25 more each night and we did not get any view.. 2. hotel staff at the restaurants were excellent. We had lot of issues with upper level staff at the hotel. 3. there were disconnect between upper level management. they were contradicting each other

just okPosted Oct 31, 2013
I can't say anything bad about the staff they were all polite and made you feel welcome. The hotel lobby and pool are beautiful along with the beach access. My room however was another story. Our shower floor was on the verge of collapse. I'm sure the room below us had to have a leak. The hotel was crowded and it was u impossible to get a good spot at the pool unless you like to wake up on vacation at 6am. Overall I wish I stayed at another less crowded hotel. if you are an early riser with a different room you may enjoy this place. If you are in your 20-30s I suggest trying another.
