Pleasantly surprised by our hotel

Posted Dec 9, 2014
Pros: Large room, comfortable bed, free wifi, flat screen TV
Cons: The pool was a little chilly. Not sure if it was because it was December and it cooled off faster than in summer or if the heat needed adjusting.
Location: The hotel was very close to the Biltmore Estate and was about 10 minutes from downtown; also a large shopping/restaurant complex about 5 minutes away.
We were meeting family in Asheville for a birthday dinner and didn't want to drive home afterward, so we looked for a hotel that would be not too expensive, but still nice. Having had some experiences with not-so-great hotels, we were pleasantly surprised with the Fairfield Inn. The staff was very nice and promptly handled all our needs. The room was great and the bed very comfortable. We enjoyed a dip in the hot tub, but did not swim in the pool as it was a little chilly. There was also a nice work-out area, computer area, and a large breakfast area. The breakfast buffet had a lot of different items for all tastes and was open later than most hotels keep their breakfast buffets open (a plus for sleeping in). The hotel was conveniently located in Asheville and very easy to find off the interstate. I would definitely stay there again.

Room had a bad smell when I walked in...

Posted Dec 8, 2014
I arrived after 2am tired from a long drive. All I wanted was sleep. When I entered the room, there was an odor of staleness/mustiness. After a long drive I would've liked to take a bath. There was a handicap seat where my head would be that had the stains water leaves behind. Kind of off putting. I went to sleep figuring if these were the only problems then I could suffer through it as I wouldn't be in my room much for the weekend. In the morning I attempted to take a shower. As I opened the shower curtain I noticed a small cockroach on the curtain. I took a picture of this before I killed it. When I started the water, 2 bugs came out of the drain and ran through the tub until the water washed them back down the drain. The shower head only came up to my lower chest. I'm only 5'10" and had to hunch over to rinse off. I also took pictures of several longer hairs on the towels. After this I called the front deal to ask if I could be moved to another room as this would be before new guests started to check in. The desk clerk told me there were no rooms available for me to move to. When I was in the lobby I overheard the two ladies at the desk discussing rooms that people had checked out of already before new guests came in. The room I was in wasn't just handicap accessible, it was the handicap room. If I would've known I would've been placed in this room I wouldn't have reserved there. It had more of the feel of a hospital room than hotel room.

Good location just outside Asheville

Posted Nov 18, 2014
Pros: The staff are professional
Cons: Needs soundproofing: hallways get very loud
Location: 5 min drive to some restaurants/shops. Downtown Asheville is a short 10-15 min drive and Biltmore is 15-20 min away. Parking time is extra.
Heating is noisy and some fixtures look overly worn down. Either this hotel is very popular or maintenance is being skipped.

It was "OK"

The front desk clerk gave me my keys and I went to the room number she told me on the 4th floor. Keys would not work, came back down and found out she had given me the wrong room number....so thankful no one was in that room when Im trying to get in the door!!!! My room was actually on the 2nd floor. The room was ok. Cable TV stations I wanted to watch would not come in. I was happier with the room and service at Crowne Plaza a few weeks earlier. The continental breakfast the next morning was completely substandard. All in all, I will stay elsewhere next time if the room is the same price,

Hotel rooms are in serious need of updating. Common areas are ok, but not the rooms. Staff was very nine and helpful.

The hotel was fine. It was a great location to get into downtown or Biltmore Village.
