“3 star quality for the price of 2 stars! Don't miss the rooftop bar with Acropolis view.”
I just spent 4 nights at the Attalos Hotel in Athens and was very impressed with the general presentation of the hotel, its attentive staff, its facilities and its location. It's billed as a 2 star hotel, but in my opinion, could easily be classed as 3 star. It's on a wide, main road so is fairly safe for walking to and from at any time of day or night, which as a solo female traveller, was important to me. If you're not familiar with Athens and just look at a street map, some of the roads that look to be main roads are actually more like long, narrow side streets! For the first two nights of my trip, I stayed at the Carolina Hotel, a couple of blocks away from Attalos, and although I would also recommend that hotel for its facilities and convenient location, the general standard of that hotel wasn't as good as the similarly priced Attalos and I wasn't as comfortable walking back to the first hotel at night - it wasn't the worst area, and I had no problems, but the surrounding streets were narrower and more deserted. My room at Attalos appeared recently renovated so had a lovely, new feel with shiny floorboards and a nice rug. The bed was fairly comfortable and the room and ensuite were cleaned thoroughly each day. The shower was hot with good pressure. The hotel itself has a TV and computer lounge for guests with free internet/printing. There is also a great rooftop bar with a clear view of The Acropolis that was lovely to relax at with a glass of ouzo on a warm evening :-)
