“Secret Bargain”

The puzzler is that the Carolina is rated at only two stars. It's located just steps from the Plaka - well south of the Omonia and Exarchia neighborhoods that I was advised to avoid. Clean, comfy room, good breakfast, free WiFi (they give you the password), and even a roof terrace to enjoy ouzo and fruit at sunset.

The hotel was simple and marvelously situated, and therefore an excellent base to spend time at the Parthenon, Agora etc. The staff were always efficient, polite and helpful, and I loved the buffet breakfast, particularly the Greek yoghurt and honey.

The Carolina is great! Good service, good breakfast, pleasant staff. The neighborhood can be a bit loud, but it's very centrally located, so that's the trade off to expect. Rooms are small, clean, everything you need for a great stay in Athens.

“Perfect location”

Excellent location and situated in a very safe area. All main attractions are within walking distance. I visited Athens to soak up the culture without spending a lot on a hotel, so if you're planning plenty of site seeing and visiting bars this would be a great choice. The room itself is ok, no major issues. Don't let the 2 star rating put you off as even though there is no luxury you do get better quality and value here than at an average 2 star hotel. Oh and the lift in the hotel is like the ones you see in old movies, definitely magical (don't worry it's in full working condition) I only had breakfast on my first morning, which was a bit disappointing, not much of a selection, they had cereal, sweet bread, jam, ham and cheese and that's all. They might have a better selection at busier times though I don't know but there are plenty of coffee shops in the area. Staff is very helpful and friendly, made me feel very welcome and everyone I met spoke good English so I had no problems. If you're coming from the airport the hotel is also very close to the metro station, around 5-10 minutes walk (if you start walking in the right direction not like me) Overall I would definitely recommend this place if you don't want to dash out on a hotel but rather spend on shopping (ladies shops are within 1 minute walk!!) and if I'm ever back to Athens (which I hope so) I'd be staying here again.

“Hotel Carlina, Athens, Greece-great little hotel on a budget”

As a more mature single woman wanting to go on April Spring Holiday as a USA teacher working in Kuwait- I wanted safety, convenience, privacy, cleanliness and comfort- at an affordable price. Hotel Carolina fit my needs perfectly. It has a nice complimentary breakfast, free but a bit outdated laptop/internet, nice friendly employees that told me about another hotel-The Electra (a bit more upscale & caters more to tourists)- a couple of streets away, that had daily tour buses/info at. So all and all, I was satisfied with this hotel- I got the better Double bed/balcony view. Not much of a view but it was lovely, private, relaxing.

“Great Simple Hotel”

We were looking for a nice, simple and definetly cheap hotel in center of Athens and the Carolina Hotel met all of those criteria. I think it's great for simple accomodations for travelers on a budget. The rooms were comfortable, though kind of cramped. The bathroom was a bit dark and the shower water would always spray on the floor, but there was always hot water w/ good pressure. The rooms have TVs, WiFi, and safes (great b/c I was traveling with a laptop) and ours even had a small balcony to step out onto. The hotel has free breakfast in the morning, it was pretty simple, yet good. The area is within easy walking distance of all the majors sites and the historic Plaka area. There are also two major metro stations nearby. The area is nice and safe, though at night when things close down it can get kind of creepy and dark, but I would not say unsafe. The hotel staff were always were very nice and helpful with any issues that we had. I know some people had complained about outside noise. Though at night some of the street noise was audible, it was rarely excessive. Overall, the Carolina Hotel is a great choice if, like us, you are looking for a cheap, convenient place to stay near all the sights in Athens. No luxuries, just a place to sleep and rest between days of touring the city.

“Athens Hotel”

Although this hotel is close to the ruins, I would not stay here again. The beds were uncomfortable and there was someone outside our room at 1:30 AM making too much noise. We didn't get much sleep.
