Nice older hotel in a lively area.

Posted Jul 19, 2014
Pros: Good location near Monastiraki Square and metro line, easy walking distance to the Plaka area, lots of restaurants and shops around.
Location: Good location near Monastiraki Square and the Plaka area. The metro station is about 1.5 blocks away, easy access to Piraeus and the airport.
The hotel has a pleasant old-world charm to it - the staircase is very steep, but there is a an old-fashioned elevator for transporting your luggage to the upper floors. As a family of 4 we had 2 rooms that joined onto one another, both rooms were simply furnished but clean and comfortable. The bathroom was a decent size for an older hotel and the shower worked well, enough towels etc. We arrived at the hotel very early in the morning after arriving in Athens on an overnight flight - the staff very generously allowed us to check in early, hours ahead of regular check-in time, this was much appreciated as we were able to rest and clean up before heading out to explore Athens for the day. We found the staff to b very pleasant and helpful in giving directions, tips on using the metro, sights to see etc. The area the hotel is in is very lively day and night, lots of cafes and restaurants nearby. We were able to walk to the Plaka area and up to the Parthenon/Acropolis and museum in about 1/2 hour. Also walked to the National Archaeological Museum, approximately 35 mins walk (took the metro back, only 2 stops from Monastiraki station).

Great value, location and front desk staff

Posted Jul 1, 2014
Pros: Location, front desk staff, breakfast and overall cleanliness. Staff allowed us to store our bags after checkout as we had a late afternoon flight.
Cons: Elevator is small, but staff very helpful during check-in and check-out. Took the stairs most of the time.
Location: Convenient to public transportation, shopping and dining. Easy walk to Syntagma, Plaka, Acropolis and weekly market. Try the free walking tour, great!
Stayed for two nights upon arrival in Greece before heading out to the islands. Great location and easy to get to from the airport using public transportation. Very friendly and accomodating staff (especially the front desk staff). Very good breakfast and room comfortably slept four very tired American travelers. Front desk staff very helpful with information, directions, weather forecasting and housekeeping staff very friendly, attentive and helpful. Nice rooms, A/C worked very well and a great value for families.

Great location, average hotel

Posted Jun 30, 2014
Pros: The location and breakfast
Cons: The toilet in our room needed to be fixed
The location of this hotel can't be beat. It is 2 minutes away the Monastiraki metro station (walking), 10 minutes away from the Acropolis, and 5 minutes away from fantastic restaurants and bars. The rooms themselves are plain and small. Our bathroom floor was soaked after every shower due to the inadequate shower curtain, and our toilet had a leak so we had to keep the water that flowed to the tank turned off. We were only there for two nights though and didn't stay in the hotel very much so this wasn't a big deal. The breakfast was tasty and had nice variety.

Convenient, good-value hotel

Posted Jun 14, 2014
Cons: Breakfast was very good but serving arrangement could be improved to reduce congestion (not a major issue).
The Cecil is a perfect choice for a good-value hotel in a most convenient "walk-to-just-about-all-the major-Athens-attractions" location. Comfortable and clean basic room, pleasant staff, good breakfast.

Simple hotel, great location

Posted Mar 31, 2014
Basic tourist hotel located within easy walk of all the main Athens sites and very close to Monastriaki subway station, on the direct line from the airport. There is free wifi but it doesn't work too well if you're staying up on the third floor. My room did have a view of the Parthenon though, so that was cool. Breakfast is basic but it will get you going. Staff are very nice, helpful and friendly.

Nice Hotel for the Price

Posted Mar 17, 2014
Pros: It is near the one of the main tourist area. Max 5 Min walking from the MONASTIRAKI Metro Station. Hotel staff was helpful and pleasant. Good Price.
Cons: The bathroom should be improved. The shower "cabin" was very tiny. I've read people complaining about it, but didn't expect it to be so small :)
A normal hotel for the price you pay. If you want a budget hotel with good location than this hotel should be your choice. you are very close to the tourist area, one of the main shopping str. and a flea market.

Perfect Location- Cozy Room

Posted Dec 9, 2013 on Hotels.com
We stopped in Athens for 3 nights on our 2.5 week trip to Europe. The hotel is blocks from Monastariki metro stop (which is in the heart of the Plaka and has amazing views of the Acropolis upon exiting the station). We were close to a little meat market, soulvaki row (try the first one on the right) and was at a perfect location for the whole acropolis tour. It was a 5eur cab ride to an amazing night club (dybbuk) and the breakfast was substantial (meat, cheese, bread, honey, butter & yogurt with coffee and juice). The bathroom was a little crazy & everything gets soaked but the hotel staff did a good job drying and cleaning for us every day.
