“BE CAREFUL!”
This hotel is in a VERY VERY UNSAFE location. We saw prostitutes on the same block, drug deals on the same block, and drug users right down the street. Please be very cautious. Maybe this is everywhere in Athens. The hotel was good, old hotel. We felt very safe within the hotel. But would HIGHLY RECOMMEND not bringing children under 18 to this location. Positives: It is close to the Acropolis and the Archeological Museum. It has a wonderful breakfast buffet! The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. There are two computers in the lobby with free internet access (but no printer).
“Very Sad Neighborhood”
The Hotel Ionis itself was not bad, fairly clean, things worked, but the neighborhood is very sad, stinky ,and worn out at its best. It reminded me of Delhi . I like Greece but I will not go back to Athens again for pleasure. Yes that unpleasant.
“Not as bad as other reviews make it seem”
Ok so upon reading the other reviews for this place and being on a strict budget, I was a bit nervous about booking a room. So the neighborhood has a few hookers and I would not go out after dark ( 9pm onward) but I felt safe during the daylight hours and there were dozens of police on just about every street. The location of the hotel was great as it was only about a 4 minute walk to the metro station which will take you just about any place you want to go including the Acropolis. The rooms were pretty clean but the AC does not work at all so expect to have the large screen less window open at night if you like to breath. Windows are sort of dangerous if you are not careful so avoid if you have children. The bathroom was small with no working ventilation but hot water worked well. Fridge did not keep anything even remotely cool so don’t count on storing too many beverages. There is no place to purchase drinks inside the hotel and most vendors close down by 9pm so bring something to drink before you head in for the night. The staff was not rude and seemed to leave everyone be unless help was needed. The Breakfast buffet was great and served for several hours each morning. I have to say I would recommend this place because it was one of the nicer buildings in the neighborhood and it gave us a place to rest after the long days of sightseeing. If you’re low on cash and want to see the awesomeness that is Athens, stay here and don't let the small flaws of this place get you down.
“Worth the price”
The hotel was very nice and for the price range, worth it. The free breakfast was amazing. The staff were very nice. Although the neighborhood was not the best, the hotel made up for it. The hotel was perfect for someone on a budget.
“good people”
