DisappointingPosted Oct 24, 2013
I spent a couple of nights at Rio Hotel and I was very disappointed with the rooms.Top floors were noisy (there was an annoying buzz caused by the air conditioning units, spread on top floors), so I requested to to be given another room. Both of the rooms were light less and not maintained properly (dysfunctional doors and loose wall sockets).Breakfast was absolutely poor. On the other hand ,staff was friendly ,and the daily room rate was cheap. Over all , staying in the center of Athens every time I visit Greece ,I must say that all the hotels in this area have similar room rates and some of them are far better than this one.

Wasn't worth the low pricePosted Jul 23, 2013 on Hotels.com
This hotel was cheap and relatively near the Agora and Acropolis. However, the bathroom was moldy and the a/c didn't work. The owners seemed nice but it didn't make up for the condition.

quite locationPosted Jun 16, 2013 on Hotels.com
hotel rio is located in a quite but central location, the metro connection is just across the road and you can reach all the great historical places in minutes, service was good.staff was very cordial and helpful, on the minus the AC works only when the temperature crosses 30 degree centigrade so for june it was hot.

Conveniently located hotelPosted Jun 3, 2013
Cons: Small elevator....but then a lot of other elevators in Greece were small too.
Location: Very close to the metro station.
Hotel is located very close to a metro stations and eating places. Breakfast is not fancy but is adequate. There is a very good night view of the Parthenon and the city from the terrace.

Very friendly staff, simple hotelPosted Jun 3, 2013 on Hotels.com
This is a simple hotel with very good value for the money. We stayed in a family room with three kids. Hotel has a good location, rooms are very basic but ok. We needed to leave very early to get top the airport and the staff was very friendly with organizing a taxi for us.

Very unfortunatePosted May 8, 2013 on Hotels.com
The staff could not have been more helpful. However, some of the rooms were in very poor condition for lack of maintenance. Cleanliness could and should be improved. The area is unprepossessing and it was a pity it was Easter Saturday, otherwise more things would be open locally. The tourist board approved room rate for the same room has gone down from 80€ in 2010 to 50€. The actual rate charged was about 30€ including buffet breakfast. I feel sorry for them- impossible to run a hotel on that basis. I hope they survive.

great location and servicePosted Aug 7, 2012 on Hotels.com
Had a great time at this hotel. 20mins walk away from the main sights in athens and just 2mins away from a metro station. The hotel owner was very helpful and always available (even reminded everyone that he was going to put the olympic opening ceremony on the tv). great rooms for the price, no problems there, balcony even had a good view. Would definetly recommend this hotel
Rio OkayPosted Aug 1, 2012 on Hotels.com
The Rio is older and in a not so great neighborhood, however, it was clean, inexpensive and very close to a Metro stop. The older gentleman at the desk during the day was great. He was very helpful. Breakfast was very good and you could eat outside in the sidewalk area. It was wonderful early in the morning. Overall I would rate it a good stay.

Pleasant stay in AthensPosted May 28, 2012
The staff were always there to assist and nothing was a problem. I had my walet stolen on the Metro and they were more helpful than the South African Embassy in Athens.

Not good for a woman traveling alonePosted May 3, 2012
The neighborhood was kinda scary as a single woman traveling. It wasn't very close to the main city sites either.
