“Our new #1 Choice for Athens Hotels!”

Staying at this hotel was one of the best decisions we made during our 2 1/2 week trip to Europe. After reading the negative reviews about the neighborhood, we were reluctant to book a room at the Melia Athens. I'm glad we decided to give it a try! I was looking for a hotel near the meeting place where we caught the shuttle/bus for the ferry to Skopelos Island (Where much of the movie, "Mamma Mia" was filmed). The Melia Athens hotel is literally right around the corner from the meeting place for the shuttle/bus. We got up early and walked around the corner. The hotel is very nicely furnished with very comfortable beds, Bathroom was very nice and luxurious, in room safe, rooms are typical for what you would find in Europe (Small by American standards). You can't beat the value for a room at this hotel. We originally booked our room for two nights, and planned on checking into a one of the large American hotels in Athens upon our return from Skopelos. But we cancelled that reservation and rebooked a room at the Melia Athens because we enjoyed it so much! I can't say enough nice things about this hotel and will certainly recommend it to anybody touring Athens, as the proximity to the Metro Station makes it super easy to get around and even to/from the airport quite inexpensively. Can't wait to go back again!!

“Athens' best.”

at first they couldn't find our reservation. they offered us soft drinks while waiting. Later on for waiting us like 10 minutes, the upgrade our room to the executive suite and the personnel told us they were very sorry for the delay. Everything was great overall, and next time i'm gonna definetely make reservation to Melia.

“Great hotel for the price”

Most travellers say that this hotel is in a pretty bad location but I stayed here for 5 days and I had no probems with this hotel at all. In fact, I felt safer as I found a lot more cops patrolling this area. Unfortunately, most of the surrounding neighborhoods in Athens aren't exactly what you'd call prime locations with the exception of the Plaka. The room was clean and the facilities were in great condition and it is located about 5 mins away from Syntagma Square.

“Beautiful hotel in a great location”

Residence Georgio, although by Omonia Square, was a very well appointed hotel with a friendly and attentive staff. The front desk crew were very helpful with restaurant reservations, car rentals, and other helpful advice. The rooms were spacious (for Athens) and the beds were unexpectedly VERY comfortable.

“Would not hesitate to stay here again.”

Had reservations about hotel after reading so many negative comments about the neighborhood, but it is just a downtown area. Most downtown areas are equally bad, and I saw none of the heavy prostitution and drug use mentioned in several reviews of this hotel. I was not uncomfortable walking at night in this area at all. Being able to view the Parthenon from the rooftop swimming pool was awesome.

“AWESOME! Experience”

The Hotel was excellent, the staff pretty knowledgable (about metro, directions on foot, etc.) The breakfast however was too expensive for what they offered. Stop at a local cafe in the morning instead. You have to check out lycabettus Hill, and the resteraunt located on the hill (the view is priceless, and the food was great! You have to try the Moussaka)

“Delightful”

We had a wonderful experience at the hotel. Our room, although not large, was well-designed, esthetically pleasing, and very functional. The roof-top pool and cafe were a real pleasure. The staff was always helpful and attentive. Definitely would stay at Residence Georgio on a return trip to Athens.

“Possibly the best hotel room in Athens Centre”

Perfect hotel with superb rooms. Stayed there before will definately stay there again. Only downside was the fact htat for some reason they did not change the sheet for 2 days eventhough they were obviously dirty from having wine spilled on them.

“Melia Athens -Greece”

This is the best hotel we stayed in. Location is great, it feels very new and has bar and pool on the roof with spectacular view of Athens. We stayed 3 days and were happy with the convenience of location (15mins to get to Plaka, Monastiraki) . The room was spacious and one can stay there for a long time very comfortably. Decor is new and very elegant. But the best thing about this hotel are the people who work there. The wallet and the phone was stolen from us on our way from airport to the hotel in the metro (be extremely cautious, there are a lot of pickpocketing). The staff was so helpful, compationate and friendly. They helped us with making calls and took such a good care of us that we were able to get over that misfortune and enjoy our vacation. Many, many thanks to all people at the front desk!!!! If you are going to stay there, you will be in good hands and get very good service.
