Helpful and friendly staff, close to beach

Posted Jul 30, 2013
Pros: We were very happy to be so close to the beach. It was also a perfect location for getting to the airport and close to all arractions.
Cons: Air conditioning was a little too cold.
Location: We were very close to all the major attractions. Saw the Parthenon, royal palace, changing of the guards, Olympic stadium, university, etc.
Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted by the gentleman at the reception desk. It had the character of a boutique hotel; clean, welcoming, updated. The room was clean and updated with a large balcony with a table and chairs. As we had been travelling all day, with an early morning departure, we chose to stay at the hotel for room service. It was fast, efficient and the food was good. The beautiful beach was directly across the street. The wonderful thing about arriving in Athens was the cap on taxi fares. The cab drivers are also tour guides, and for an additional fee will take you to all the sites Athens has to offer. (Stellios was our driver and tour guide. He was amazing, informative, and did everything possible to make the most of our short stay).

Not what I expected

Posted Jun 27, 2013
Pros: The people who work there have the best customer service I have ever had . Adriana was amazing, she drew me detailed maps so I could find my way.
Cons: The bedding and comfort of rooms.
Location: No restaurant choices nearby..there is a sandwich shop on your way to the crosswalk to get to the beach and I grabbed baguettes there every morning.
The hotel was not what I expected, the pictures make it look much nicer than it is. The pictures are real (except for the bedding) but they give an illusion of being much nicer than it is. Look closely and you will see there are 6 lanes of highway between the hotel and the beach. The beach has tons of trash on it and is all rock. Loud music blares from loudspeakers with lots of curse words. The pool is tiny with only enough room for two chairs, so only two people at the entire hotel can relax by the pool. The bedding pictures are NOT accurate, no quilted down blankets, nothing comfortable at all...like laying on a box spring. Would I recommend this to a friend? no because they would and I feel I know my way around from that location now. The price is cheap enough that I could buy a thick blanket to put on the bed to make it more comfortable to lay on.

Close to beach but noisy and poor quality.

Posted Jun 24, 2013
Pros: Staff & location to the tram and express airport bus.
Cons: Hotel cleaning service.
Location: No restaurants, no grocery shops. ok beach but it is dirty.
I stayed here for two times on average 3-4 nights when visiting Athens. The hotel looks lovely from the exterior but the rooms are drab, showers dirty and there is no telephone answering for incoming calls, so you will not receive calls. The maid visits the room to change towels, and make the bed but you do not get new bed linens even after 4 days which is nasty. There is a bar fridge but it does not chill so of no use. The television provides static images. The plus is that it is convenient to the tram and the sea because it is across for the beach, BUT there is a 6 lane road in front with rushing cars and trucks so the noisy is harsh. There are no nearby restaurants and if you stay in the Tropical hotel and eat in from the menu they order out your food and dish it for you at more than double price originally. Good for a one night stay... but look for hotels in Glyfada where the sea is clean and there is a lively night and day town feel and very nice and many restaurants.

Nice hotel at Athens Coast/close to everything

Posted Jun 23, 2013
Pros: The staff is amazing and helpful. They are polite and knowledgeable about the area and ways to move around (transportation etc). The price was good.
Cons: Bed quality is not the best (eg two twin beds pushed together make a double), breakfast quality is OK,
Location: The location is pretty good. The view is amazing having the Saronic Gulf in front of you. There is bus and tram stops, the airport bus stops nearby.
I booked this hotel as a part of a package on my last day in Athens. I was flying to the US in the morning and I knew that I needed to be somewhere that is convenient for me to get to ATH airport. The hotel exceeded my expectations for the price I paid. It was not a luxurious stay but a decent clean place to sleep. The view from our room (if you exclude Poseidonos Ave. in the front) was amazing (the Saronic Gulf and the ships coming in and our all day/night). Athens downtown was also not very far (about 30 mins on a bus I would say) and ATH airport is less than 40 mins away (on X96 bus that stops really close to the hotel). The staff was helpful and polite better than many average US hotels I've been to. There are beaches to swim even in walking distance from the hotel but a bus can take you to far better ones in 30 mins or so. I would easily go back to this hotel for a budget but more than decent place to stay.

nice hotel for short break

Posted Jun 14, 2013
The hotel is on a busy road but there is an underpass and plenty of crossing points. A few nice places to eat ideal for a 2 or 3 day break. staff at hotel excellent.

Know what you are getting

if you are just staying for a night, or a quick layover, it does the job. However, it is not in the best area - next door to seedy strip club and down the street from a "xxx" hotel. Management was nice, however we did not stay long - was not how we wanted to end an otherwise great vacation!

Very good for a holiday stay

Posted Apr 3, 2013
Pros: Staff
Cons: A bit noise coming from the nearest main street
Location: Near the beach, very good snack shop by, near tram station and Pireus port
Very well situated just in front of the beach and 45 minutes away from central Athens by tram. Extremely polite staff.

Recommended Hotel in Athens

Posted Apr 2, 2013
Pros: the friendliness of the personnel.
Cons: the traffic noise with the balcony door open however once they were closed there was almost no noise.
Location: beautiful view of the Agean Sea and easily accessible to public transportation.
This was a special occasion for my wife and I (her 50th B-Day) and we always wanted to visit Athens and to experience mystical Greece. After the long flight from the U.S. and upon our arrival at the hotel, we were greeted by brothers Yiannis & Nikkos. We were jet lagged and after checking in and tipping our driver, I accidently left an important envelope at the front desk. It contained our Euro's and other important docs. Before we even made it to our room on the 4th floor, Yiannis brought this envelope directly to us with everything intact. Thank you for your honesty. Throughout our entire stay, these two young men were not only pleasant but they were always extremely helpful along with our other adopted daughter, Adrianna. This young lady even helped me out before our arrival by attempting to assist with restaurant reservations and with setting up all important transportation to and from the hotel. She was also very funny and she taught us basic Greek. She gave us a cheat sheet so we could communicate with the locals. It was just a true pleasure to speak to our adopted kids (we have children about their ages) at the front desk. Like I told them each one made us feel at home. We also had a very positive experience from the restaurant staff, Nikki and Dena. They were always extremely friendly and the food served was excellent. Great job to all and we will certainly recommend anyone from America to stay with you at the Tropical.

nice hotel

Pros: staff
Cons: no free wi-fi, breakfast isn't very inviting
Location: far from city center (30-40 minutes by tram) but very near the tram station (2-minute walk)
hotel is clean, staff very helpful, breakfast is depressing (everything is dry). Far from the city center, you need 30-40 minutes by tram to reach there. however, with the same price or even lower you could find other hotels of the same quality in the city center.
