Athens, located between Nashville and Birmingham in northern Alabama, is 15 miles from the Tennessee state line. Sharing a city limit boundary with Huntsville, Athens is home to the Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Plant and Athens State University, the states oldest educational institution. The city maintains five city parks, the Athens Recreation Center, and the Athens Sportsplex.
