“Of the 3 Quests we've stayed at, by far the dirtiest....”
Well, they took a day's charge off of our bill, but still.... We arrived on a Sunday after 3:00pm, and were checked into a room that wasn't ready. Somebody else's towels lying on the floor, somone else's trash in the kitchen. And not a word of apology. So after our 30-hour journey from Oklahoma City, we took ourselves off for two hours to eat at the America's Cup marina. Each day they cleaned, but some days you wouldn't have known they did. The humid Auckland weather required daily antibacterial action in the bathroom. The kichen had a mismatched set of glassware, one big, one small, three middlesized, and breakfast bowls enough for a family of one. But Auckland is a great city with superb food, we had a terrific visit, and the Quest idea is a good one. Just amateurish in the execution. Would we go back there? Probably not. They seemed miffed and defensive that I told them I wasn't too happy with people running around the halls, hollering and knocking on doors at 1:00am (after the All Blacks won the gold in the Sevens rugby), and not an adult in sight.
“Wouldn't chose again.Not impressed.”
Hotel room decor was from the eighties, located on a busy main route road, noisy from early hours to late evening, double bed mattress was noisy and uncomfortable as well as the rollaway bed, mattress on hard metal base.Kitchen, toaster small dirty and old, had to put down twice to brown bread. Fridge on its way out, frost free fan noisy, shelves missing as well. The dust was thick on all surfaces and never cleaned the whole fifteen days there. Not enough untensils, crockery coathangers supplied for three persons.Room divider door missing, no privacy.Staff were helpful but would not put this hotel above three stars.
“Roomy, but stank and felt dirty”
I've stayed in a lot of Auckland hotels and I would've rated this hotel a 3 or 3.5 star, max. Yes it's a large fully equipped room (with kitchen etc) BUT it felt lived in - dusty, smelly, dirty. Also it was freezing and all it had were two little heaters, windows were single-glazed so you could hear the busy traffic on Nelson St, one of the windows was broken, there were no curtains (only blinds) so the sun shone in in the mornings, peeling paint in the bathroom, light fittings that didn't work. Definitely not 4.5 stars!
