Not a happy camper

Posted Mar 19, 2014
Pros: The executive floor rooms are comfortable.
Cons: Service could be more engaged/ and knowledgable. Hotel website should be clearer about impact of SXSW on shuttle service. Healthier food options.
Location: The location is dreadful. Nothing but the I35 and a few chain restaurants (Denny's and Taco Bell). Grim.
I booked this hotel as I was in Austin for a conference which started the day after SXSW ended. The tail-end of SXSW meant there were no rooms in the city centre. It's a decent enough place to stay but seriously inconvenient if you don't have a car and want to (i) walk around Austin; (ii) see anything other than the I35 (close by and pretty noisy); (iii) eat real food (the hotel's offerings were pretty grim). The hotel's website mentions a free downtown shuttle service but this was suspended during SXSW (traffic apparently); this fact was not advertised on the hotel website which meant a $40 round-trip cab ride which on a budget is significant. There is a train service for $2.75 each way which no-one on the desk seemed to know about. It doesn't run on Sundays and the station is someway from the hotel. The hotel shuttle bus driver kindly dropped me there. All in all, no serious briackbats but no bouquets either.

Great time. The room had a big nice bed to sleep in, clean bathrooms, so what more could you want?

Good centrally located hotel

Posted Mar 9, 2014
Pros: Location.
Cons: The restaurant menu and food is very mediocre.
Location: Very central to I35 and 2222.
This is a very large hotel so it caters to large groups. There were some high school groups registered during the same week as my stay so the hotel was probably louder than usual. For that reason, it was more obvious that there is little insulation from sound from the pool area, adjoining rooms and the hallways. The doors are very loud and slam when they close. This is an older hotel but very convenient to I-35 and 2222.

4 star staff, 2 1/2 star room

Posted Feb 21, 2014
Pros: The staff was amazing!
Cons: The condition of room #359
Location: Lots of restaurants and easy access to highways.
I purchased the unpublished rate from Expedia of a 3 1/2 star hotel. I was excited to find out it was the Crowne Plaza and felt I was lucky to get it for such a discounted rate. My room (single king) was all the way down the hall and around a corner next to stairs or a utility door. I didn't look. I felt a little uncomfy being alone then in a semi-secluded room. It did not occur to me that I should have called and asked for another room, as I know they would have worked with me. Once in my room I discovered several places where the wallpaper had been patched up poorly. Not exactly what I was expecting. The bathroom was small with just enough room to open the door and not hit the toilet. I understand they have to make use of all available space. I just feel like if I had paid the asking price I would have expected WAY more. I called the day after my stay and let them know I was a little disappointed. The lady I spoke with was VERY apologetic. She took my name and number to have the manager call me and discuss my stay and see how they can make my next stay more comfortable. The staff there was amazing! Anyone I encountered in the halls including maintenance and housekeeping were amazingly pleasant!

Nice for the price

Cons: the bathroom size
Staff was great, room was very clean, really enjoyed the stay and the premium movie channels. The only downfall was the really small bathroom that barely fits one person.

Nice hotel close to highway

Posted Feb 3, 2014
Pros: Convenient location
Cons: Bathrooms--I think Howdy Doody designed them. TERRIBLE incoinvenience. Door ALWAYS in the way and MUCH too small.
Stayed 2 nights to attend gun show. Was wishing for a free breakfast we usually have at comparable hotels.
