Very dirty rooms, polite front desk staff

Posted Jul 20, 2015
Pros: We talked with two separate people working the front desk (one night shift, one in the morning) and both were very polite and seemed genuine.
Cons: The room could use updates, but deep cleaning it would do wonders. Clearly problems with cleaning crew or with staff communication regarding issues.
We arrived to a VERY dirty room - floors obviously not cleaned, standing water on the sink, used soap in the soap dish and there were items in the main room garbage. Since there were so many issues, I'll review each room separately. Bathroom: There was one towel in the bathroom, missing tiles in the shower, and exposed (not intentionally) pipework under the sink which had been partially covered up with some wallpaper (there was no actual wall under the wallpaper, which was pretty obvious). Every other surface (pipes, towel rack, toilet paper holder) had a thick layer of grime/dust. Main room: only two very small pillows on the bed and the window was missing the blackout curtain, so it never got very dark. Walls are paper thin, so you can hear every conversation in the hallway, the person in the next room coughing, people fighting at the pool (at 2a.m., no less). Because of a late flight we checked in around midnight. I complained immediately about the used soap and standing water. In the morning we brought up the cleanliness issues - they comped the room for the first night and said that they would have it cleaned thoroughly. When we came back later, it had NOT been cleaned (dirty floors, bed was made) and the cleaning staff had left an (unused/packaged) sanitary napkin on the sink. Not sure if that was one of theirs(?), or some kind of message or commentary on our complaint, but it definitely wasn't requested. Either honest mistake or very unprofessional/inappropriate.

Average hotel away from downtown Austin.

Posted Jul 20, 2015
My husband and I have traveled extensively and driven cross country several times. We like the Doubletree line of hotels and this one was average. The pluses were the location which was right off I35 so that it was very easy to get around and out of town; room was clean w/AC; beds were okay but pillows were too soft; towels and room amenities were okay. The minuses: only 12 channels on the TV; internet charges unless you are a member of HHonors; room cleaning was very late in the afternoon on three occasions; and the AC wasn't great and was noisy. Room service was timely but menu is rather limited. Check in and checkout was efficient.

I wouldn't recommend it. Staff are not friendly and they kick us out for no reason. It's a big mistake staying in this hotel. Never again.

Unpleasant Double Tree (university area), Austin

Posted Jun 16, 2015
Pros: It is close to the university.
Cons: Beds mattresses and room air conditioner noise! Water should be provided free of charge.
Location: University and state capitol building
The best part of the stay was that it is close to the University. However, there is nothing else that I can say good about the stay. The beds were too soft and the constant AC noise from the room air-conditioner prevented anyone to have a good night sleep! This reminded me of a cheap motel 8 instead of a Hilton managed facility. We were asked to pay for bottled water - something that is free now even in cheap motels! I will look to spend a few more dollars and book in Sheraton which is also very close to the University, next time I am in Austin. But, I will stay away from this one!

Pros: It was clean, disappointed that the rooms didn't have a refrigerator.
Cons: Nothing
Location: Close to the The UT Frank Irwin Center.
The expirence was good, hotel was convenient, but the folks in Austin do not know how to drive

Noisy room air conditioners kept us awake. $15 charge for parking in an empty open parking lot is totally unjustified.

Great Hotel for Great Price

The room was very nice. The only thing missing was an in-room refrigerator, but upon request, one was promptly brought to my room.
