Beautiful Bed and Breakfast with a Great Staff

Posted May 28, 2014
Stayed here overnight during a trip to Wimberley, Tx. I was surprised at how beautiful the home was. The staff was extremely friendly and would go out of their way to ensure you are comfortable. My girlfriend and I plan on staying again soon. What a great getaway.

Not what we expected

Posted Nov 11, 2013 on Hotels.com
We were a little disappointed in our 2-night stay at Crystal River Inn. We did not stay in the main building, but the one next door. (they apparently have 3 or 4 buildings). The room was clean, but the condition of the room and bathroom was lacking. It is a very old building, and we understood that, but some of the remodeling (i.e. trim out, etc) was rather substandard. The room had a small electric heater as it was cold in the house (temps were around 60 overnight) and that worked okay. The second night they had replaced this with a fake fireplace with electric heater. Seemed like a nice thought, but every time we turned it on it tripped a breaker downstairs. The heater only pulled 12 amps and they had a 20A breaker so not sure what the problem was... but it was chilly in there! On the positive side, it is a great location for anyone needing something close to TX State, and the breakfast both days was excellent as was the service.

Quaint with wonderful staff!!!

Location: The Crystal River Inn is located close to the square in downtown San Marcos so there is plenty of shopping and yummy restaurants to eat at for dinner.
This Bed and Breakfast is located in an old Victorian house. Each bedroom is rented out and breakfast is served in the dining room, just like at home. The breakfast food is cooked by the staff in the kitchen and it is DELICIOUS!!! I highly recommend staying here for a romantic get away or even for a girl's trip.

We only stayed one night due to our busy schedules. The Crystal River Inn gave us the feeling of being on a real vacation in the middle of a college town. The location was great for our trip, as the sole purpose was to float the river the next day. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This 100+ year home is beautiful and inviting. Will recommend to all my friends.

Disappointing Experience

Posted Nov 2, 2012
Pros: The quiche and the pecan waffles were excellent. The staff were most pleasant. The garden was pretty.
Cons: It lacked the charm and comforts usually associated with bed and breakfast inns. It was more like cranky old Aunt Irene's house.
Location: On a busy street in the midst of commercial development. The rear of the property, where our room was located, is across from TSU student housing.
My husband and I did not find the Crystal River Inn up to standards for a bed and breakfast. The requested accomodations for my husband's handicaps were not met. We were given a 2nd floor room; he could not do the steps. The clerk on duty changed our room immediately; our gratitude to her. There were no lights on the cobblestone path back to our room. The broken wooden shutters on the windows left us exposed to anyone walking by. The change in room evidently did not sit well with the owner. She called to tell us the room we were moved to was undergoing a redecoration. They needed swap some furniture out of the room to send for refinishing and needed to hang new drapes. We welcomed the drapes and didn't mind the exchange of furniture nearly as much as we minded the attitude of the owner. We don't expect a hassle, particularly at the price charged.

Staff was terrific...Very welcoming and accommodating. Fantastic breakfasts. Parking is a bit difficult. Lovely historic residence. Wifi is available, but few outlets in the rooms for all my electronic devices.
