Wonderful historic hotelPosted Dec 1, 2013
Pros: Our location was easy to reach from the airport , downtown with wonderful restaurants all around. Best hotel bar and happy hour of all time!
Cons: Our room was way too small for such a long stay, I was disappointed. Be wary of the many panhandlers downtown, though the locals were not bothered.
Location: Moonshine, Swift's Attic, Elephant Bar, Second St., Lambert's, Moody Theater / ACL, Gourdough food truck, Wahoos, HomeSlice, Searsucker-all amazing!
We arrived in the evening to an amazing lobby more like a movie / museum, and clearly several black tie events were going on. We checked in for a 5 day stay and despite being very busy we were attended to after a short wait by the staff. I had expressed my room preferences (king size bed) with the reservation, and did not remind her as she checked us in. The bed seemed only full sized, not queen or king. I was surprised at how small the room was, there was only room to open one suitcase in the whole room, in a closet. There was a small armchair and nowhere else to sit and get dressed or have a drink besides the bed. The walkspace around the bed was so small we kept bumping into the bedpost-ow! Though very nice, this was clearly a room for one person alone and not big enough for two people for 5 days. We just stayed out! There were many positives. The bathroom / shower was wonderful and I have never had such great water pressure in a historic wing. We later found out we were near the haunted room - which explained the alarm clock quietly going off at all hours even though we had turned it off. The restaurants in Austin were great and the concierge with glasses (Steve?) never steered us wrong, and I even ordered his great recommendations off the menu at Second St. We never felt crowded and had no real noise problems. The Thanksgiving Brunch looked amazing, but we had to leave for the airport. We walked everywhere, but the valet was quick when we needed the car.

This hotel was exquisite! We loved it.Posted Sep 26, 2013
Cons: The only thing that could be improved is the lighting in the bathroom for getting ready.
We were in town for a real estate convention. The hotel is convenient to the convention center & sixth avenue for entertainment. The staff was very helpful and friendly!

Don't miss the DriskillPosted Sep 16, 2013
WOW! The experience you can have from a stay at the Driskill is worth every penny. Fun fun fun right in the heart of the action, (admittedly for the younger crowd) but fun none the less. I recommend the Driskill whole heartedly!!!

Excellent situation - in the middle of it all !Posted Sep 14, 2013
Very noisy if you are on floors 4 or 5 of the historic building - especially on weekends if they have parties going on. We complained to the staff asked for a complimentary breakfast which we were offered for our trouble. We were told to ask for a room in the new section to avoid the disturbance. Other than that no comments. If you wish to have a meal at the hotel, The Driskill Grill restaurant is excellent, a wonderful dinning experience.

Wonderful experience! Close to all of the hot spots in Austin, walking distance to the lake and convention center. Went to the hotel bar for happy hour and ended up staying through closing. Great bartender and fun hotel guests - really enjoyed ourselves!!

Pricey but great locationPosted Sep 11, 2013 on Hotels.com
Small rooms, mildew smell throughout, quite pricey. Great location in west end of 6th st venues. Elevators slow. $34 for valet parking!!

Best spot for downtown AustinPosted Sep 6, 2013 on Hotels.com
This is the best hotel to be centrally located and still have the night life of 6th street right outside the door or a minutes cab ride away. The solid, stone walls and decorations are constant reminders of where you are, rather than the usual decor of anywhere USA.
