Great historic hotel.Posted May 19, 2015
Pros: We liked pretty much everything about the hotel.
Cons: Chairs on the balconies are worn and could be replaced. We would have liked to have coffee available in the room.
Location: Located right in the middle of Austin, the hotel is convenient to most things to do or within a short drive or cab ride.
From the time we checked in through the time we left, the service at the Driskill was outstanding. Our room was in the original part of the hotel and and was very comfortable with high ceilings, king bed, comfortable chairs, etc. Everthing has the Driskill logo from the pillows on the bed to the sink in the bathroom. When it rained the staff was prepared with ponchos we could keep and umbrellas we could borrow. The large and comfortable bar featured a great variety of drinks as well as snacks. The breakfast menu was quite varied and delicious.

Short stay but very accommodating - Front desk exceptionally helpful as were the valet's. Limited space to pull up to hotel. At 3:55 in the bar, we weren't able to order food as the kitchen didn't open until 4 - Really? Take the order and wait 5 minutes - that was the only rudeness we experienced.

Great historic hotel in downtown AustinPosted May 13, 2015
Pros: old time charm and history.
Location: Downtown Austin. Right on 6th Street - which is the happening place to be for music, etc.
Great hotel. Lots of historic character. Great location right in downtown Austin. Right on 6th Street, but couldn't hear the noise/music coming from the street.

Beautiful historic hotelPosted Apr 14, 2015
We enjoyed our stay at the Driskill. The hotel itself was beautiful, room was small but beautifully decorated and updated. Bed was comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful. The location was great. However be advised, the only negative was the loud music from one of the 6th street bars near the hotel which kept us up well past midnight Saturday night. Our room was on the top floor facing Brazos street.

Great location and staff!Posted Apr 13, 2015
Pros: Staff, location, decor, ammenities.
Cons: This is not the hotel's fault, but there was loud construction going on in a building outside of our room which started rather early in the mornings.
Location: Restaurants and bars with live music within walking distance. Kayaking on the river a few blocks away was fun. Capital building and museum are close
The Driskill is a historic building that has been updated for comfort but still has the charm of the past. Since it is not a chain, it has a lot of character and is truly unique. The location of the hotel is great for walking to many of Austin's attractions, restaurants, and bars. Eat breakfast at the restaurant in the lobby...it is delicious! The bar is charming, has some interesting tasty drinks, and has live music most nights. The fitness center is bigger and has more equipment than other hotels I have used. All staff we encountered were professional, happy, and helpful! I would definitely stay there again if returning to Austin.

beautiful historic hotelPosted Apr 11, 2015
Pros: Rooms were huge and beds were super comfortable. It was very quiet. It was close to everything.
Cons: More elevators would have been great, but I understand that this is a historic hotel and very old.
Location: Across the street from all of the live music played in nightclubs. We walked to the capitol and to Stubbs for barbeque. This hotel is close to everyth
This hotel is over 100 years old. This is where the presidents stay when they visit the capitol. LBJ proposed to Ladybird at the bar of this hotel! It is beautiful and is right in the center of everything you want to do in Austin. The segway tour actually stops in front of the building to talk about all of it's history. Parking is easy, nightlife is across the street. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Austin.

Beautiful, historic hotelPosted Apr 1, 2015
The Driskill was the highlight of our time in Austin. Gorgeously restored and maintained. We loved the live music nightly in the bar and can unreservedly recommend the Batini! The location was ideal for all of the sightseeing we wanted to do and perfect as a starting point to take in all the nightlife. So much charm, inside and out

Valet too rushed.Posted Mar 24, 2015
Pros: Everything else! The hotel is magnificent and grand. We enjoyed having drinks out on one of the balconies. The room was quite and very relaxing.
Cons: For the valet to be clear with first time visitors. If we had been told they were going to unload our car we would have gotten all we needed at 1st.
Location: Great location in downtown. Walking distance to the Capitol and infamous 6th St. Many restaurants and clubs nearby.
We drove up to the valet service but we were early for our reservation. The valet was ready to unload our car but we told him we weren't sure if our room would be ready. He said they would leave the car there while we went and checked. Fortunately, we were able to go ahead and check in and immediately went back to the valet and our car was gone and they had unloaded what they thought we wanted. Well, they assumed incorrectly. Since they park the cars wherever, if you need your car they go retrieve it and re-park it. So, that's what happened and we had to wait 20 minutes for them to get the car for us to get the remaining items we needed. I know we arrived at a busy time for them and understand them rushing, but if we hadn't been told they would leave our car one of us would have stayed with the car. We didn't want to unload our car until we knew we had a place to take our things. We would have checked out Austin while waiting. If you're ever early, I would recommend you call the hotel to see if you can check in early before driving up to the valet. Also, our friends self-parked at a garage across the street. That might be another option. And another reason for the mishap (if you want to call it that), the valet spoke so fast and somewhat mumbled we didn't understand all we were suppose to do or what he was going to do. We had already told him we would unload it ourselves he said he would get us a 'ticket'. We didn't know what he was talking about. Just rushed!
