    Located in mideastern Texas, the capitol city of Austin was originally known as Waterloo. Settled by German, Swedish, and Mexican immigrants, the city grew as the railroad system was introduced. In 1886, the Driscoll Hotel became the first Austin hotel to accommodate visitors to the area. After a fire destroyed the building, the space was determined to be the site for a new structure that would be the Capitol building. During this time, hotels in Austin TX began to be commonplace.
