Worth the walk!Posted Aug 11, 2014
The hotel is a walk up a fairly steep hill but it was worth it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very nicely decorated, in excellent condition, well lighted and comfortable. The room and the bathroom were quite small but I pretty much expected that on the Island. The bed was amazingly comfortable!

Charming Boutique HotelPosted Aug 6, 2014
Pros: The rooftop deck, friendly staff and good location
Cons: Bathroom is tiny, but nothing can be fixed since space is very limited.
Location: You can walk everywhere, but be prepared for the challenging hike back up the hill when you return back to the hotel!
My hubby and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary at Catalina Island this week and had a nice, relaxing time. If you take a cab from the boat dock, expect to pay ~$11. There really is no need for you to take one since we later learned that it's a short, leisurely stroll to the hotel. However, be aware they are located in the middle of a steep hill, so if you have bags, it might be worth the cab ride. Our room was cute, the size of the room is on the small end, but the shower was probably the smallest showers I've experienced at the variety of hotels I've stayed at in the last few years. The Cal King Temperpedic bed was comfy and the room was clean, so that made for a pleasant experience. There is free wi-fi, but the signal was spotty at times (resetting your smart phone or iPad/tablet should do the trick). We really enjoyed the rooftop deck, they sell bottles of wine to their guests for less than twenty dollars that you can enjoy as you lounge on the rooftop. Overall our experience was pleasant. I liked the variety of K-cup coffees and teas offered at the lobby, but the continental breakfast only consisted of ripe bananas, oranges and some apples.

Nice hotel but no pool or jacuzzi. Great view. I had a nice one night stay.

Boutique luxury, with comfortable charmPosted Jul 18, 2014
Pros: It is off the main drag, so it's quiet, yet close to the Casino, Descanso Beach, and downtown. The staff are all delightful, and they offer coffee.
Location: The hotel is ideally situated near the downtown, and only briefly up a hill, which made it easy to return to throughout the day.
I have stayed in Catalina hotels several times, and know that many are "basic needs" at best, but the Aurora was a refreshing respite of luxury. Although there was a complication with the booking--through no fault of the hotel--the front desk staff, especially Romero, went out of his way to correct the situation and we were immediately shown to our junior suite, which had a large bath, with jaccuzi tub, modern styling, a large couch, bar set, mini fridge, microwave and heaps of space to spread out. It was the sort of place that made us want to spend more time in the hotel, than exploring the island. There is even a fantastic roof top deck with a stunning view of Avalon harbor, the perfect spot for an evening cocktail. The staff are so accommodating and welcoming and sincere, that we are certain to return.

Too pricey for what you getPosted Jun 12, 2014
Pros: Location and view. Roof top lounge was nice.
Cons: Some refurbishing required - elevator would be big improvement - especially after walking up that hill
Location: Although up a steep hill that could knock your breath out, it was near all the shops and restaurants and activities.
As long as you upgrade to the ocean view, you get a great view. But, after staying in hundreds of hotel rooms over the years I found this room to be small particularly for the price paid. The only other room we ever stayed in that was smaller was one in Stockholm. Here in Catalina the depth of the bathroom was barely enough to sit on the toilet before your knees hit the glass door in front. The sink was a wall mount that was less than 12" deep from the wall and 16" wide with no place to put your toiletries. No bathtub, only a dark shower. The bedroom wasn't large enough to accommodate a king-sized bed, so we had to do with a queen. You had to push the vanity chair all the way in to the sliding glass door to the bathroom. The in-room amenities were nice: robes, free cold water coffee and tea, refrig, safe, DVD player, wi-fi. There was a spa room, but no pool, no fitness center, no restaurants, minimal lobby. Continental breakfast was less satisfactory than the low priced Hampton Inn so we skipped it. A good air conditioner made the room comfortable and the Tempurpedic bed was very good. Much of the furniture was showing wear and common carpeting needed replacing. Some of the similarly priced hotel provided shuttle service to the ferry; this one did not. Bottom line, way too pricey for what you get.

Great hotelPosted May 22, 2014
Had such a great time in Catalina and the hotel staff was fantastic. The rooms although small are very clean and comfortable. There is an outdoor patio on the 3rd floor that looks onto the harbor, very romantic! The Continental breakfast is really good and plenty of choices.

Modern Hotel near beachPosted May 5, 2014
Pros: clean, and modern interior
Cons: Bathroom was a little small
Location: Location was near to the excitement of the main street but far enough to avoid the noise.
Staff was wonderful. They were most helpful in retrieving our lost luggage. Love the staff, love the facility

Small, overpriced roomPosted Mar 28, 2014
In general, the hotel was "tidy". VERY small room, with exceptionally small bathroom and shower. Noisy (construction next door), constant golf cart noise. Overall, "meh"... Wouldn't stay here, or visit the island again. PS--Carnival cruise port of call. Need I say more!?!

Nice place to stayPosted Mar 27, 2014 on Hotels.com
Nice place to stay but basic room was a little small for my taste. Nice decor, friendly staff, but definitely not a W hotel as the photos purports it to be like.

This hotel was very clean and comfortable. The front desk was very polite and helpful. Location was good as well since it is was a close walk from many of the stores and restaurants . Check in and check out was also very quick and easy with them holding our bags until it was time to leave. Highly recommend!
