Elegant and Relaxing Slice of Heaven in Provence
When we were planning our trip in the South of France, my husband said that he wanted to stay at a bed and breakfast in a historic home. We did some research and found Chateau de Varenne. It looked wonderful and then managed to exceed our wildest expectations. The historic building is in immaculate condition and is beautifully furnished. The pool and grounds were stunning. The large French breakfasts were the best we had on our entire vacation. The laundry service was much appreciated as we were running out of clothes near the end of our trip. Emma and her family who run the place are extremely helpful, attentive, and kind. Emma assisted us with dinner and tourism recommendations. The Chateau feels like you are in the middle of nowhere with its peaceful beauty, but in reality you are steps away from great restaurants and a short drive away from the city of Avignon. I recommend Chateau de Varenne most highly.

Absolutely stunning chateau with incredible staff!
My fiancé and I stayed here for a few days for our summer holiday. This was the most magical, romantic, and beautiful place I’ve ever stayed. The staff was so friendly and beyond nice. The breakfast was a great spread (and they were kind enough to lay out gluten free options for my fiancé each morning which was actually really good). I cannot stress how peaceful and relaxing being here was. 10 out of 10 experience.

While the beautiful grounds, chateau, and room are what first provided great impressions, it’s the considerate set-up of the amenities and most important the bespoke service that sets this property apart from other top hotels we have stayed at across Europe. Usually the details of the food, room, and decorations will gradually fade away once a great vacation is over, but our family will likely always remember the everything-fresh breakfast with our table set up with our room’s name, the chess session I taught my daughter in beautiful library room, and most important all the warm hospitality especially the chateau host Emma has extended to us. We look forward to our visit again!

This is a fantastic property, with amazing grounds, a quiet pool, and evening seating rooms that are nicely decorated. The breakfast is terrific and you can sit out on a large gorgeous seating area overlooking the valley. Emma is an amazing hostess, with a great sense of fine detail. Even if it's a splurge, book this hotel; one of the nicest hotels we stayed during our 3 weeks in France.

Just what my soul needed!
My stay at Chateau de Varenne was out of a fairy tale. From the moment we arrived, the owners, Emma and Paul, treated us like friends and were very welcoming. The entire staff was truly a delight to be around. As was Woody, their beautiful dog who was always there to greet everyone. When the gates open to let you in, you are transported to a serene and calm retreat. The property is beautiful and impeccably decorated, full of charm. I was in awe of every single detail. I was in heaven. So much so that I extended my stay and will make my way back there as soon as I can. Thanks so much for everything Emma and Paul.

We stayed 3 nights at the Chateau de Varenne and had a truly lovely time. The hosts Emma and Paul and all the staff were so friendly and made our stay wonderful. Loved the beautiful grounds of the property. Breakfast was perfect on the terrace, only wished there was option for having dinner but it was short drive or cab to get to restaurants nearby. Would love to visit again!

Treat yourself and stay here!
Marvelous! Really recommend a taxi from the train station to the Chateau; the bus service does go from the new train station, but it's unreliable. Also, check local restaurants' hours; there may not be anything open nearby on the day you're at the chateau, so that's another taxi ride. The host and hostess are wonderful and their experience shows! They've created a relaxed and welcoming environment. We had only planned for one night, and I truly regret not spending the week! The chateau is beautifully restored, and they shared their plans for improving the hot water reliability. That was the only mark I could make against this wonderful place. The bathroom was gorgeous, but the hot water did not last as long as I wished for my 5 minute shower. Excellent breakfast provided. Evenings very relaxed and a great opportunity to chat with other guests or enjoy a quiet beverage alone in the common areas. I will plan another trip that allows me to spend more time at this chateau, while I explore the incredible surroundings.

Wonderful people in most amazing setting. Authentic rooms that make you feel as if you are royalty. We very much loved our stay there. Very close to Avignon. We only missed having a gym, but everything else was perfect.

It felt more like a home than a hotel...and the breakfast under the trees was a dream (maybe add some freshly squeezed orange juice and it will be prefect!). A lovely place in Provence between Avignon and Orange to escape the heat and hassle.

Although we only had the opportunity to stay for one night, we were beyond impressed with the property. It looks great in the Expedia images, but in person it is even more charming and romantic. The town that sits below the Chateau is quaint and scenic, and there are views to distant mountains and valleys from every spot we sat or stood. My two sons loved the pool and the morning breakfast. Great coffee, coisants, breads, and jams. My wife was in love with the room and it’s gentle aroma of lavender from the second we opened the door. I particularly enjoyed the well kept gardens and pathways around the property. The air conditioning was a huge relief after some scorching hot days, and the owners of the property were beyond welcoming. It felt as though we were staying with good friends. We are already trying to figure out when we can return for an extended stay, and we only left this morning. Love this place! We were sad to leave.

Amazing hotel! Beautiful château with lovely décor! The interiors are inmaculate! Beautifully preserved, every corner in perfect condition. Elegant and cozy. Based on Michelin and Relais and Chateau's ratings we expected more from this three day stay. The facilities are dated and the room cleanliness is disappointing. The WiFi connection was non existent.

Classic chateau - step back in time!
This stately chateau serves as a beautiful base for exploring the area of Avignon and Chateauneuf-de-Pape. Quiet and unhurried, it is quite a departure from the bustle of hotels in the big cities. If you want to truly feel like you are living in a authentic chateau (not just visiting one of the many touristy Chateaus) then this hotel will fit the bill - do not expect room service, air-tight doors, pristine decorating, elevators, etc. but do expect a real experience.
