pleasant environment

Posted Jun 30, 2014
Pros: charm, good food, pleasant atmosphere
Cons: see comments above
Location: all around a beautiful area
I would suggest changing the carpet in the rooms ( very dirty) and repairing the window mechanism, all in all probably a good update would not hurt...!!! it is awkward set up as one cannot see the TV from the bed due to the posts...!? otherwise it is a very nice pleasant place

Terrific place to stay. Setting is lovely. Restaurant and bar are very nice. Housekeeping did not adequately clean the room before my arrival, however.

Nice hotel in a nice town.

Posted Jun 28, 2014
Pros: The location was very close to our event. The hotel is attractive on the outside and the rooms are nice enough, but older and slightly musty smelling.
Cons: The Bathrooms are really small and there isn't much counter space.
Location: This hotel is in a pretty and quiet town. We were in town for a lacrosse tournament and didn't check out much except the restaurants at night.
The staff was friendly and helpful. There is a nice little gym. We liked the town. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable.

Tired and old

Posted Jun 25, 2014
Pros: It was a place to lay my head and shower.
Cons: Central air would be a big improvement. A mini fridge would be nice. A bathroom do over , so there is more shelf space would be lovely.
Location: I was visiting family and the hotel turned out to be too far. I checked out early.
I stayed in the "motel" part of the hotel. It was older and very tired. Central air would be a big bonus; I woke up with a sore throat each morning from the air blowing directly on me. You cannot turn on the light in the bathroom without turning on the fan. The fan was so loud it gave me headaches.

Good value. Relaxed atmosphere

Posted Jun 25, 2014
Pros: Nice bucolic location. Clean room. Excellent restaurant.
Cons: Real glass cups and glasses in room. Bed poster was right in the middle of tv viewing. Better coffee in room.
Location: Near lots of outdoor hiking trails and parks. Excellent fishing nearby. River kayaking. Good restaurants in the area.
Nice inn in small historic town outside Hartford. Near good fishing waters. Nice pool located next hotel rooms, nestled in front of trees. Room service style food available at pool from hotel restaurant, including alcoholic beverages. Hotel restaurant very nice. Room was a bit dated, but clean. Room had only plastic glasses and paper cups for very bad coffee. Only one ice machine working in our building. Continental breakfast included only sweet pastry and breads. Having said this it was a very good value. I would recommend and return!

Lack of attention mars lovely features

Posted Jun 25, 2014
The overall setting and ambiance of the inn is nice. Great light and air coming through big windows; a little shabbiness in the arm chairs is tolerable to avoid cheap modern furniture of so many hotels. Generally, the rooms very comfortable. The grounds are lovely, relaxing and quiet at night. The experience is marred by lack of attention by the management to some issues: 1) The front desk staff was almost universally unfriendly, surly or arrogant; 2) The free "breakfast" is no more than thermos coffee and cheap, sticky pastries 3) the room doors need something to stop them from slamming super loudly - this woke me up early more than once 4) Woke up on the weekend to a strong smell of frying bacon in my room - too much even if you like bacon - they need to check the kitchen exhaust ventilation.

Beautiful New England hotel

Posted Jun 25, 2014
Location: The Mark Twain House in Hartford is really amazing, just a short drive through pretty area.
I should have known by the incredible bargain that something was up. The website shows a beautiful hotel with gorgeous grounds, but our room was in the "motel annex." It felt like my grandmother's basement: kinda musty, toile wallpaper, dresser drawers that stuck, tiny bathroom, old pillow top, the whole thing. The free breakfast was not worth it. The clerk was overwhelmed the night we checked in, so we didn't get a proper introduction the otherwise lovely property. The pool and grounds were really beautiful and very well cared for, so we enjoyed all the time we were out of the room. There was some sort of outside function every day we were there, so this hotel is certainly respected in the area, but I got the impression the hotel and staff have seen brighter days.

Beds are amazingly comfortable!

Posted Jun 11, 2014
Pros: The bed, the wireless internet, and the atmosphere.
Cons: UPDATE the tv's and the showers.
Location: Nothing much to do near by. There are lots of good restaurants close though.
The beds in our room were so comfortable that we immediately fell asleep. The room was well kept. The tv is an older tube tv which was odd since the rate seemed to imply new electronics in the room. The shower was also old and had a broken drain. Therefore the shower would fill with water while showering and I was standing in a foot of water after 5 minutes.
