“Handy Location”
The hotel is conveniently located next to the train station and only 3 minutes walk to the town centre. The rooms are extremely large especially the bathroom which is definitely the largest i have seen in a hotel. Rooms have all amenities you would expect from a 3 star hotel. The wireless connection in the room I stayed in was very poor however this was down to the fact my room was a long way from reception. The full scottish breakfast was very nice and came with haggis which was a nice touch. The close proximity to the train station did not pose a problem with noise as you might expect. I only noticed hearing one train about 7pm one night. Overall my experience was very good.
“Quality has gone down”
We stayed at the Station eight years ago and looked forward to returning. When we walked in, the lobby smelled, the service at the front desk was slow, and it wasn't clear to the clerk that we'd already paid for the room. The wi-fi didn't work, the hotel was under new ownership and there was no bar service (although we were told we could walk down the block to a convenience store and bring our own drinks into the lounge). The smell in the lobby continued up to the lounge and into the room. The only positive experience was housekeeping. They were helpful and did a good job. Overall, it was not what we were expecting. We won't be going back to the Station.
“3 stars is an absolute stretch”
My husband and I stayed here on our way between Edinburgh and taking the ferry to Ireland and were genuinely hesitant to even walk in when we drove up. The exterior of the hotel looked very unimpressive and a bit run down. Our trepidations were confirmed when we got into the room. The furniture is pretty worn, paint is chipping off the wall in many places, the carpets were stained from obvious water leaks and the beds were hard as rocks. It just felt so dirty I did not even want to put my feet down on the floor with or without socks. The lift was broken, adding to the lack of charm, and just to add a bit more, when I walked up to the front desk to check in the woman at reception proceeded to talk on the phone for around 2-3 minutes, no acknowledgement or apology in the slightest. Do not stay here unless you are absolutely desparate.
