From the Hauptbahnhof, one can approach the hotel from Karlstraße. Avoid other roads opposite the Hauptbahnhof. This hotel is great for a short business or leisure trip to Frankfurt. It is within 10-15 minutes walk to the Innenstadt which may be approached via Mainzer Landstraße. The Grüneberg Park with its Palmer Garten and Botanischer Garten is a nice place to visit and may be followed by wonderful cake and tea at the Siesmayer Cafe in Siesmayerstraße. A 40 minute train journey down to the wonderful town of Heidelberg with its castle, churches and wonderful shops is a nice day's excursion.

The staff helped us (traveling with my wife) by providing a free map with a suggested walking tour around Frankfurt -which we did-. I would stay there again and again. The staff is very helpful. Hotel is very very clean. Excelent for that price. And one more thing, if you need by any reason to stay near the train station then this is the perfect place since it is located only 5 minutes walking from the train station.

great breakfast. hard boiled eggs, meat, yogurt, cereal, juices, breads, pastries, salmon - good for meat eaters and vegans. Hearty enough to sustain the morning. Free breakfast, and free wifi make it a bargain: no additional or hidden charges.

It had been about 25 years since we stayed at the National in Frankfurt. Prior to that time, it was the only hotel we stayed and met German family members at, and there were reasons: Less than three blocks from the main rail station, good restaurant (now only for breakfast, but that counts for a lot), excellent conditions for noise-sensitive people (double doors to the stairwell and elevator area--and the courtyard in back is so quiet you can open your window at night and sleep tight), and price-sensitive travelers. The area of perhaps twenty blocks facing the rail station are what the Germans call "international," and it is now a well-established barrio of non-European and Eurasian cultures; anyone with a discriminating eye will find a really good, fun Turkish restaurant. We are not "white-bread" European conservatives, and we like such a neighborhood better than the standard choices near the opera house or the "Roemer." When it's time to leave by train or take a train to the airport, the station is minutes away.

The Astoria was a good choice. It is a fairly small hotel - not far from the Haupbahnhof, but comfortably well away from the 'red light' area round the station. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Our room was a good size although the bathroom was small. The furnishings and decor are typical of a fairly basic hotel, however everything was spotlessly clean and the beds were comfortable.
One big bonus was the inclusive 'help yourself' buffet breakfast. This provided a very good start to the day.
There are quite a few restaurants near the hotel, though these tended to be a little expensive. There are plenty of reasonably priced places to eat in the city centre - especially if you like Italian cooking!
Overall, I'd definitely recommend the Astoria as a very good, reasonably priced hotel.
