“New but not Great”

My husband and I stayed at the Sofitel for 5 days and 4 nights. We stayed at the end of December, when the weather is comfortable, but not warm enough to go in the outdoor pool or ocean. The hotel itself is brand new and looks very nice. The beach and pool areas are especially beautiful. We were told that the outdoor and indoor pools were heated, but when we got there, we were told by the staff that none of the pools are heated now because of some problem. Our room was very nice, complete with a balcony overlooking the ocean. Unfortunatelty, half of the TV channels did not work. When we called down to the front desk, they assured us the problem would be fixed in two days - it was never fixed during our stay. Also, one night a strange, burning smell was coming from the vents in our room. After calling the front desk, someone came to take a look at it. The employee's suggestion was to turn on the air conditioner and open the balcony door - not exactly the solution we were expecting from a five star resort. While the hotel is brand new and the staff are very nice, we encountered several problems which were never resolved or compensated for.
