Quiet Oasis in Busy UbudPosted Aug 29, 2013
Pros: The ambiance is true Bali!
The Gunung Merta Bungalows compound is beautiful and peaceful. The staff is friendly and helpful. Guests have access to a shuttle to the shopping area of Ubud.

Interesting but guest facilities could be improvedPosted Apr 30, 2013
Pros: Traditional buildings and experience of local living arrangements.
Cons: The bathroom facilities and guest amenities (air conditioning etc).
Location: Reasonable location, although entrance is on the busy main road, inside it is quiet.
This was an interesting 'hotel' in that the couple of guest rooms appear to be located inside a local residential compound giving the visitor an insight into local family living. The staff were helpful and polite. Our guest room was on the ground floor of a 4 room building - relatively spacious with balcony overlooking a tree'd area at the back of the compound. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom facility however was disappointing with poor water flow and a hand held shower head for washing making it difficult to wash. The drain smell was quite strong, especially in the morning. There was no air conditioning with a desktop fan as the only cooling appliance making the room feel hot overnight and whilst the lights were on, power fluctuated constantly. Overall, an interesting experience but the cleanliness and guest in-room facilities could be greatly improved.

You can get to know a Balinese familyPosted Jan 25, 2013
Pros: Talking to the owner's family
Cons: internet was not working
Location: 10 min walk to the Ubud place. Tell a taxi driver it is near Patung Aljuna at the end of Jl Raya.
The accommodation is spacious and has a peaceful view from the balcony. (I enjoyed a beautiful sun rise). It is 10 min walk to the Ubud palace and there is a supermarket in front of the bungalow. The family is friendly, but they are not professional. Internet connection was not working and I was not informed of the result of the transport arrangement requested although it was ok. Currently they are making a swimming pool, so I couldn't avoid the construction noise. This is an interesting accommodation for people who would like to know more about how Balinese live. If they organise a cooking class at the bungalow, try to join it.
