“3 star at the best”

Low maintainance and showing the Age. Cocroches seen in the room and behind bathoom mirror. Service good Breakfast quality and cleaniness needs improvement

“Very Good Hotel”

This hotel is in the south end of the beach, a little quieter than the north. the staff was great, the breakfast was very good, i would definately stay there again

The beach was dissapointing, probably the dirtiest beach i have ever seen. Maybe it was debris from latest tsunami you could not walk in the water, it was full of plastic bags

“Nice little boutique hotel”

The room was spacious enough that the triple room was not too cramp. Modern bright furnishings. Other pluses: the beds were nice, bathroom simple but clean, lovely fluffy pancakes at breakfast (with banana n raisins :). The wifi connection was available only in the restaurant - a minor inconvenience. The concierge and front desk people spoke English quite well and were helpful. The location is a good 20 min walk to the heart of Kuta; and with road repairs along the way, that was not a pleasant walk. Plus the traffic jam to/from Kuta can be a put-off, even with a taxi. O yes, on Sunday morning, the church next door rang its bells at 7am, then 8am, and 9am - so no lying in for us :))

Area recommendations

Try out staying at Legian or Seminyak - the Kuta/Tuban scene is seriously overcrowded. Ubud, too is very charming but traffic in Bali has escalated over the last 5 years. The SPAs are unbelievable and worth visiting EVERY DAY :)))))))!

Dining

Bebek Bengil (Crispy Duck) in Ubud - a must! And it's pork ribs were succulent and delicious!

“Nice, small hotel with beautiful courtyard/pool and nice spa”

If you are looking for a less-expensive alternative to the 5 star resorts, this Kuta-Tuban property is a winner. The restaurant is decent, with a good spa and a nice pool, though the sun-bathing area is too small. The service is great and the location is well-situated if you're looking to explore the Kuta nightlife. About 10 minutes from the airport, but no airport noise ever. I had a suite, which was roomy, clean and relaxing... Next time, I'll be staying further north, in Seminyak, or down in Nusa Dua, but if you want to have fun in Legian/Tuban area of Kuta Beach, this is a great location. It's also a 5 minute walk to the Discovery Mall.

Area recommendations

Seminyak - night life, horseback riding on the beach Ubud - Monkey Forest, galleries, shopping Legian - wild club nightlife (younger crowds) Nusa Dua - West side - watersports - Jet Skis, parasailing, snorkeling, diving, etc.

Getting around

Definitely avoid any taxis in Bali other than BlueBird, as they have working air conditioning and meters...minimum 5000 rupiah, but in the end, it was always cheaper than the "negotiated" rates with the other cabs. Rental cars are only a good idea if you have a local guide/driver...getting both a driver and a car is a good idea, to explore further around the island.

Nightlife

I preferred the nightlife in Seminyak, clubs like Double-6, Obsession & Bahiana on Dienapur Street (both are good for Salsa) and late night at MBargo and/or La Vida Loca. Ku De Ta is good, but expensive - a see and be seen place, and a bit further north. For the younger crowds, Sky Garden and other clubs around it in Legian are probably of interest.

“Over Priced But Decent”

Expected a little more up scale, but not too disappointed. Room was pleasant, but a bit noisy. Area seemed a bit out of the way. At check out we were made to wait while staff inspected the room- we've never been subjected to that before. Free shuttle to airport was a plus.

Area recommendations

Nusa Dua for seclusion and security. Kuta for action and souvenir shopping.

“A good stopover in Kuta”

I have stayed in many places in Bali, and always come back to the Vira. Reasons are it is less expensive, good value for the price, nearby two malls where needed shopping can be done and for me, most importantly: it is five minutes away from a beautiful long beach, which goes for more than six kilometers, and I wake up before sunrise, and out the door for a really long walk, before the touts are awake. This is my way of doing Kuta.

Area recommendations

The beach, for a walk. Not really good for swimming, due to the waves, but it is a remarkable walk and beautiful, best before sunrise and bring plenty of water.

When to go

Anytime, but there is one particular occasion you should try, and that is before the Nyepi (day of silence), where there are plenty of ceremonies, and then suddenly, the whole Island, including airport, customs, everything, goes into silence for one full day. It is a very remarkable week, if you are here then. If not, try any other week of the year, and chose your spot. Bali is much more than the beach and the tourism industry. It is magic, if you prefer to look at those small things in life.

“Value for $$”

The location is 15~20 mins walk to Discovery mall, but it is value for $$ if you are looking for 3~4 stars hotel in Kuta. The hotel is one year old, and condition is pretty good.

“Great hotel, great location”

The Vira Bali is about a 10 minute walk from the shopping mall that opens onto the beach. About 15 minutes along the beach one comes to the heart of Kuta beach. Having this crazy, busy, congested area within walking distance but not too close is ideal. The hotel itself is an oasis set in a very mixed use neighborhood, with several other resorts nearby and more being built currently. The hotel is lovely, classy, and well-run.
