Breathtakingly BeautifulPosted Nov 14, 2013
This is my second time staying at Villa Sarna. I enjoyed the first experience two years ago so much that my wife and I decided to come back again and this time the stay was even better. The place is breathtakingly beautiful and the room where I was staying, Vishnu, was just perfect. It was its own little bungalow off way to the side of the resort. It offered us the serenity that was exactly what we were looking for. There was even an outdoor patio where they brought us delicious breakfast and room service. The staff is very friendly. They arranged a private car and driver for us and we got to take in the sights which included the Monkey Forest and Blanco Museum. A pretty drive into the heart of town that's about 15 minutes away. Quick tip -- try the suckling pig at Ibu Oka...it's so delicious. Anyways, back to Villa Sarna. Villa Sarna is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at based on value. Looking forward to our next trip.

DreamworthyPosted Oct 29, 2013
Pros: Loved the service, food, relaxing beautiful scenery
Location: easy shuttle to the center, rice paddy fields
Bali has always been one of my dream destinations. It was the best part of the movie Eat, Pray, Love. From everything I've read online, Ubud was definitely a must visit stop (I also did Seminyak and frankly, I prefer other beach spots), The insider select awards helped sway my decision towards Villa Sarna and I was very glad I booked it. It's not one of those towering buildings, it's actually a bunch of Villas on well appointed and and beautifully maintained grounds. I felt very much like I was in some type of dream state. The place is stunning and the hotel staff is so nice. The owner one night was hanging out and invited us for a drink. The shuttle into town was really convenient and they even accommodated pickups and dropoffs that were not on the scheduled times. It was really easy to arrange the airport pickup too when I emailed. The stay was very much a great value especially when you compare the prices to other resorts in the area. I highly recommend the Brahma room because of the nice balcony. Quite a view to wake up to and enjoy your complimentary coffee and breakfast that they bring to your room if you ask! Our stay was as peaceful as it could get. Ah, I want to go back.

A disappointing stayPosted Oct 19, 2013
Pros: The hotel had a good breakfast and a good shuttle service.
Cons: The furnishings need to be replaced and a general updating and cleaning.
Location: The setting was beautiful but far from the main centre.
The hotel Sarna had a beautiful setting ,abundant tropical foliage and set in the hill side forest. The staff were eager to please and the breakfast was nice. However we arrived tired and instead of a quiet serene night we were rudely kept awake till 1.45am in the morning with amplified chanting and music from a temple to the close rear of the hotel. This continued for several nights and was contrary to the serene atmosphere we were expecting. Inspite of being 20 minutes drive from Ubud centre the hotel provided a good shuttle service every 2 hours. We occupied the Vishnu room which badly needs updating. The shower hose broke twice in the 7 days we spent there. The TV set was old and difficult to operate. The towels were grey and tired and the shower recess needed a good scrub.A disappointing choice of hotel .

Thank you for your review but here at Villa Sarna we are afraid the information the guest provided has some inaccuracies. While there was a religious ceremony going only the first few days of October, it ended before the guests would retire for bed. Our staff also went above and beyond to ask the temple to not project their religious ceremony as for the benefit of our guests and they listened to us. The religious ceremonies are not a common occurrence but they do happen occasionally in Ubud , which is the cultural capital of Bali. We make every effort to have them not interfere with a guest's stay and the temple is also aware now not to project even close to the evening time, and even during the day on the high holidays. We constantly strive to provide a peaceful atmosphere for our guests which almost all guests experience as you can see by our reviews. With regards to the TV in the room, we have over seventy international and premium channels, and our staff is always on hand to help our guests navigate the channels with the remote control and show them how to use it. We also have numerous DVDs to choose from as well. In terms of the shower head, our contractors went in and the damage was caused by the guest attempting to change the setting of the shower head and unlocking the hose from it- but it was clearly type of shower head where you cannot adjust the shower/hose setting . Our contractor fixed the shower immediately. We are sorry that the guests thought that our towels were grey and tired - if they had notified us, we would have provided another set of towels to their liking. We take care of our linens with the utmost care and update them. If you need anything, just ask us - we are always here to help to provide the best service and amenities.

Good hotel but not as good as they sayPosted Oct 6, 2013
The hotel is really far from the centre of Ubud, not 15, but 20-30 minutes depends on the traffic. Rooms need some refurbishment, damp smell is strongly noticeable. The villas miss out a bath in the bathroom, there's only a shower in delux rooms. Towels once white, were clean but dark grey, not a very good sign. The swimming pool is more like a hot- tap, one can not swim in it. We stayed the for two nights and were waken up everyday around 5-6 by celebration in a nearby temple (next door) which lasted all day, so it's worth it to check the calendar of local celebrations.

Thank you for your review. With regards to the location, our drivers take our guests the scenic route to town so the guests can enjoy the rice paddies as opposed to the traffic on the main roads. If the guests prefer to get to town quicker as opposed to the more scenic route, our driver will certainly do that which cuts off 5 minutes. Our towels are most certainly not a dark grey- if they had notified us, we would have provided another set of towels to their liking. We take care of our linens with the utmost care and update them. Regarding the damp smell, we are not aware of this - the only explanation that we assume the guest experience was for the first few minutes after a rain shower, as we are in the rainforest. For the celebrations, these only took place for the first few days of October and our staff went above and beyond to ask the temple to not project their religious ceremony as for the benefit of our guests and they listened to us. The religious ceremonies are not a common occurrence but they do happen occasionally in Ubud , which is the cultural capital of Bali. We make every effort to have them not interfere with a guest's stay and the temple is also aware now. Our goal at Villa Sarna is to provide a relaxing, peaceful vacation for everyone - nothing is ever too much.

Peaceful location, friendly staff, great breakfastPosted Sep 21, 2013
Pros: Good breakfast choice and view from dining area. Very quiet, peaceful location. Value for money.
Cons: Blackout curtains to block out path lights at night. Better screening of Ganesha with foliage from path so more private.
Location: Peaceful location with incredible views. Not much close-by - villa will drop and pick up from Kampung café up the road. 15 mins drive to Ubud
Very impressed with Villa Sarna for the price we paid. We stayed in the Ganesha suite with 2 young children who slept in the lounge area (ages 4 and almost 2). We booked this room because it looked like the only one that had 2 separate rooms. When we got there we saw the Saraswati suite also has 2 rooms and is in a better location. Ganesha is located next to a path leading to all other rooms so not much privacy, whereas Saraswati would be more private. In Ganesha the bathroom and cupboard/luggage storage access is via the second room (kids bedroom) which means you wake the kids every time going through. Bathroom access in Saraswati is off main bedroom which would be more practical - Saraswati also seems to be a bit fresher, with nicer décor. The grounds are simply stunning. Location is about 15 mins from Ubud but is a nice drive (free shuttle service every 2 hours) and it means absolute silence at the villa with amazing views. Room was a good size with comfortable bed but very light at night due to outside path lighting. Breakfast included in the price had great range of options (eggs, pancakes/waffles, french toast, fresh juices, fruit), cooked fresh and quickly and if you have in the communal "dining room" the views are fantastic. Dining area only has 3 tables but not usually a problem as there are only 7 rooms. "Room service" is delivered from nearby Kampung café - lovely food but over-priced for Ubud. Still good to have as an option. We'll definitely be back!

Way too far out of UbudPosted Sep 20, 2013
Pros: Beautiful surrounds. Garden is nice. Pool area is smaller than it looks in the photos.
Cons: Hotel is generally good for where it is. Not 5 star, but no complaints from me.
Location: Take the word "Ubud" out of the title.
The hotel is set in a wonderfully forest-type environment, and would be great if you had lots of time in Ubud. We only had a few days and thus this location was way too far out of town. It took about 20mins to get to Ubud centre by car (hotel shuttle runs ever 2 hours). I'm surprised the location has the term "Ubud" in it as it's pretty far out of town. If you want something out of the way, stay here 'cause it's a peaceful spot. However if you don't have weeks to explore, then stay closer to town. Cheers.

Great price for beautiful hotelPosted Aug 25, 2013 on Hotels.com
This is a beatiful hotel in a quiet, scenic location. you can walk to rice fields and the hotel drivers will take you to nearby towns for free. Very friendly staff!!! We found it nice to escape ubud each evening. That said, it's a bit far and the shuttle schedule was a bit inconvenient, making us have to plan around it. (It's nearly hourly but not every hour) Also, we stayed in 2 different rooms. I recommend upgrading to get more space, as the price difference is minimal.

A jewel in the forestPosted Aug 21, 2013
Pros: everything ... the gardens are just amazingly beautiful. The pool so inviting and pretty. Staff exceptional. View delightful.
Location: curtesy bus every hour to Ubud and back. Many rice fields and villages to walk around from the hotel.
My husband and I booked the day before. Didn't know what to expect but was for only one night. Wish it was for a week. We travelled to Bali for our 25th wedding anniversary and on entrance to our room they presented us with the cutest heart cake, decorated in blue and white rose swirls... wow what an amazing start to a stunning resort.
